In canon when Buffy tried to stop her, she and Dawn were trapped in a pit fighting earth monsters to prevent them interfering. However in this reality, Willow takes a different route; casting a spell on Buffy, and Dawn since she was next to her sister, that caused the two girls to begin rapidly gaining weight; quickly pinning them to the floor.
While Xander Harris is able to prevent Willow from destroying the world, she couldn't remember the spell she used on the Summers Sisters and didn't know how to reverse the spell, leaving the Sisters trapped immobile.
