Chapter #3

Late Wait Fate

    by: Dread Author IconMail Icon
Okay, knocking on the door isn't doing anything except giving you a sore hand. No one seems to be responding and you are wasting energy. Your next best idea is to just wait here. Between your friend, his two sisters and his parents, someone will eventually leave this house. When they open the front door, you will scream for their name, they will look down and freak out but then listen to you. You will stand in their palm as they walk upstairs and help you find the remote, you grow back and you get to live to use the remote in a safer way next time. It will be humbling but that is fine over being completely helpless as you continue to wait by the front door.

Unfortunately as you wait you start shrinking again. The potted plant by the front door becomes the size of a building and the doormat's material is becoming like short lawn grass instead of small fabrics. The door is expansive as you crane your head to look back at the door knob. It's like being in the point of view camera in a toy story movie. All you can do is keep waiting.

Again, you shrink as the potted plant is becoming a taller storied building. The doormat's fabric is like tall field grass. You hear child's laughter behind you and look back to see small children playing on the road before their mom corralled them back to the opposite driveway. Had you walked there, you'd be able to get help from them. However, if you were at this size it's hard to tell how they would see you. Are you big enough to be seen as human or would that gigantic mother ignore you as a bug in front of her sandals before walking away and leaving you in the middle of the road to be squished by a car, under one of the kids wandering to the road again, or eaten by a bird. You might still be better off here... waiting.

The wait isn't working out. You are shrinking again. Now the doormat fabric is taller than you and you are forced to move it around with your arms to navigate through it and off the mat before you get stuck and lost in it. The potted plant? It's a skyscraper monument. The dirt on the porch? Starting to become the size of pebbles instead of specks to be swept by a broom. Getting down the steps of the porch would be like climbing down a cliff so you are committed to waiting here. Even if you tried to go under the front door, you cannot get up the small ledge under the door. If someone opened the door, would you be able to get their attention?

It's been hours. The sky is turning to dusk and it's no surprise but you shrunk again and again. By now the doormat fabrics are like tree-sized. What does that make the potted plant? You are hopelessly tiny on the porch as everyone seems to be a homebody today. You are starting to lose hope and wonder if you should just head to the porch stairs and jump to end yourself before you are stuck shrinking to nothing at the porch or finally stop shrinking now only to starve and thirst to death while trapped on the porch as the giants careless walk by you throughout the days.

Before you can make your decision, the floor starts to tremble. And tremble. Each tremble becoming stronger and becoming accompanied by a booming sound like a dinosaur walking but amplified even louder. You look behind you as a shadow is cast upon you. You see a brunette with shoulder-length hair and a cute round face walking up the porch stairs. You are given a further look at her hoodie that she stole from your friend, jean pants, and her favorite pair of thin-soled tan sandals. Haley. Your friend's girlfriend. You didn't necessarily like her as she basically has your friend locked down making him less available for gaming and going out. Her attitude towards you didn't help, but now she is your only hope for attention.

Her ginormous foot big enough to crush several blocks looks like its about to accelerate and crush you into nothing as you scream but instead it lands just in front of you. The displaced air from under her foot almost carried you away like dust but instead only specks of dirt that happen to be smaller than you are subjected to that. You gaze up at her mountainous sandal sole that was once super thin at regular size. As Haley makes thunderously booming knocks to the door, you are scrambling to hold on to the imperfections of her sandal sole. You continue to climb and then hold on for dear life as someone opens the door and Haley walks in. She slips off the sandals that you are climb up and you can only watch as the miles-high giantess walks away exposing her bare soles as she steps goes upstairs. Surrounding you are planetary-sized footwear left in the foyer of the house. This is where you wanted to be but it is too late, you are smaller than a speck now. Your only hope is to climb to the top so that when Haley puts her sandal back on, you can climb up her and get in front of her eye or in her ear to get help.

Your climbing is useless as they are getting smaller at a rate that makes it impossible to make progress. At least there are more imperfections to grab ahold on. Your last deciperpherable visions before you become so tiny that everything is a blurry and alien world is seeing your friend's mom, Dianne, slip on her own sandals before walking outside with keys in her hand. She would've never guessed to look at her son's girlfriend's sandal with a microscope to see her son's best friend clinging for dear life before disappearing too small for her to even see him with that.

THE END.
