This choice: When he goes for lunch, Jack shrinks down • Go Back...Chapter #4The Pavilion by: Tisch Jack gets through his first two classes no problem. He met some cool people, got two phone numbers, and overall feels good about his classes and confident in his ability to succeed in them. Once his second class wrapped up, Jack noticed he was getting pretty hungry, so he headed over to the dining hall closest to his residence hall called "Perry's Pavilion". He went inside, used his ID to actually get into the cafeteria, then went over to the Asian cuisine place and got a bowl of Orange chicken and rice. Traversing to the Asian line and then from there to a table was quite tricky. At this time of day, which was about two in the afternoon, the dining hall was packed with people. Jack was lucky that he was able to find an open table. But when he sat down, Jack felt something in his back pocket.
"Oh my god, really?" he thought. Jack reached into his pocket and pulled out, low and behold, his shrink ray. "At this point I have to start writing myself reminders that I need to keep this back in the dorm," he continued. Instead of putting it away, though, Jack placed it on the table. He went back to eating his lunch, and for the moment, that was that. But after an employee came around and snagged his empty dish, Jack peered down at the shrink ray again and thought to himself.
"I mean, I do only have one more class today and it is two hours away, perhaps I have time to do a quick run". Apparently, that was all the motivation Jack needed because he grabbed it, looked around to make sure no one was watching, for whatever reason they would, then shrunk down to his usual inch or two. Now on a seemingly vacant chair, Jack had two options. He could climb up to the tabletop and scout the area from that vantage point or scurry down to the floor and move around there. But, considering he had a tough time just making it to the table from the food line, Jack knew that the likelihood that he would be stepped on was very high. With that in mind, Jack was convinced to go to the top of the table. As he began making his way up to the top, though, there was trouble. A pair of girls had spotted the vacant table Jack had recently been occupying and began making their way over. When they got there, they noticed a backpack that was on the floor next to it. Not giving a single thought to "someone might be sitting here" they casually put their backpacks on the chairs and sat down.
Jack, as he was making his ascent, felt his word shake dramatically. He was using the arm of the chair he previously used to get up to the table, and when he was only halfway to the top, one of the two girls pulled it back and sat down. Utilizing his strength to his advantage, Jack latched onto the chair part and remained steady while the girl sat down. When the movement stopped, Jack grumbled to himself about them taking a table with a backpack already nearby, but resumed his climb. Once he made it to the top, Jack sought out what he was going to do next. He could jump onto the shirt of the girl who took his chair and climb to her shoulder, or jump to her arm and from there go to the table. Additionally, there was the safe option of just climbing all the way down and leaving.
What was Jack to do? indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
