Alissa and Jackie looked on with horrified fascination at the green swirling portal that formed entirely inside the closet.
Both friend’s were having a girl’s night out. They were in Alissa’s room playing with makeup and picking the perfect outfit, when the portal formed out of nowhere. It was accompanied with a twangy electronic sound and constant breeze.
“What is that Alissa?”
“How should I know?”
“It’s in your room!”
“I’ve never seen that before.”
Alissa had a comb in her hand. Without putting much thought into her actions, she tossed the comb at the swirling green portal. The portal jiggled like gelatin as it swallowed the comb.
“Where did it go?”
Alissa got closer to the portal. Her dress and light-brown hair flowed back with the breeze emanating from the portal. Her barefeet padded across the shaggy carpeting in her room until she was a step away from the portal. It was amazingly detailed. It looked like a flat, 2D portal at first, but now that she was a step away, she could see that the center of the portal extended back for an infinite distance. It was like looking down the funnel of a tornado.
“Give me something.” Alissa demanded from Jackie.
The latina noticed only then, that she was paralyzed with fear. She was still clutching to two bottles of nail polish. With only a slight moment of hesitation, she padded across the room and handed her friend the bottles.
Alissa had her hand extended back, and without turning away from the portal, she felt for the bottles and promptly tossed them at the portal. Again, it jiggled and absorbed the bottles. This time, Alissa could see the bottles getting smaller and smaller as it was pulled through the vortex.
“Oh my god!” Alissa had to raise her voice, as the ambient sounds of the portal increased. “This is like that thing from that one show.”
“Rick and Morty?” Asked Jackie, also raising her voice.
“No, Sliders.”
“Where do think it goes?” Asked Jackie. She felt the breeze coming from the portal changing. Instead of blowing out, it felt like it was sucking in. At first, she didn’t feel any need to be alarmed. The breeze was probably only like 10 mph at most. Nothing to fear.
“I don’t freaking know Jackie. But I kinda want to find out.”
“Don’t do it Alissa. What if it shreds your body in a million pieces? What if you end up in the middle of space?” The sucking winds started picking up. Both girls’ hair were now flowing in front of their faces, obstructing their views.
“Yea, you’re probably right.” Alissa was nearly shouting at this point. “Maybe we should throw a mouse in there or something.”
“That’s stupid. How would we know it surv--”
A gust of wind knocked both girls forward. Their small bodies didn’t stand a chance to the wall of wind that struck their backs. Alissa, followed by Jackie, were thrown into the portal.
