(Takes Place During Season 3)
Claire was sitting on the couch, flicking through channels for something to watch in the Dunphy family living room. Everything seemed normal that day.
Alex was in her room studying. Luke was over at a friend's house. And Haley was grounded for sneaking out to go to some party.
Claire had confiscated her daughter's phone and hidden it somewhere in the house where Haley wouldn't find it. She wished her elder daughter would act a little more responsible and less like herself when she was a rebellious teenager.
Suddenly and without warning, Claire began to feel odd, as if there was a pit in her stomach that she needed to fill. The blonde woman tried standing up, although she quickly realized that her feet no longer reached the ground.
She panicked, scootering her body in reverse towards the backrest while trying to understand what was happening, taking a good look at her surroundings.
It didn't take Claire long to realize that her house and all her belongings inside were now twice the size they usually were, and they were still growing. But that didn't make sense! Inanimate objects didn't just grow on their own, confident that her two Daughters would be screaming in terror if this was happening all over the house.
Left with no other alternative, Claire had no choice but to accept the harsh reality that her house wasn't growing. She was shrinking! Smaller and smaller, her bug dwindling down to the size of a bug, leaving her helpless at one inch tall in the center of a couch cushion her butt alone could usually fill. Now she was barely a dot on its surface.
"What the hell just happened? People don't just shrink like this, do they?" Claire asked herself, looking around the room for any way she could restore herself to human size. Unfortunately, it wasn't like the Dunphy's kept any size-altering appliances around the house since they didn't exist in the first place.
"Alex! I'm sure Alex could think of something!" Claire yelled, ready to jump with joy at the prospect of returning to her former glorious height. Glad that she had raised a scholarly young lady.
Unfortunately, Alex was upstairs and without a cell phone on her person to call her daughter across long distances. Claire had no other alternative but to walk what must have been miles at her size all the way up to her room. Assuming she got the chance.
Loud booming footsteps made their way down the stairs, her vision of the source blocked by the backrest of their family couch. "Please be Alex. Please be Alex." She prayed, hoping her middle child had saved her the journey of climbing upstairs by coming to her.
However, those hopes were dashed quickly by the sight of Haley's face appearing over the couch as she walked into the living room. The panoramic view of her gigantic eldest daughter nearly sent Claire into hysteria. She was as tall as a skyscraper.
"Mom, can I have my phone back now? It's been like four hours!" Haley boomed, thinking that was sufficient punishment for sneaking out of the house in the middle of the night. Her loud voice resounded in Claire's tiny eardrums as her voice filled the room.
"Mom!" She boomed again, impatiently waiting for an answer as she turned her attention downward, catching a glimpse of movement out the corner of her eye, spotting something tiny on the couch cushion below.
"Ew, is that a bug?" She asked, the tone of her voice filled with disgust at the sight of her tiny mother. "Ugh, and it's crawling all over my favorite seat!" her voice echoed overhead as she described Claire's running back and forth, looking for a place she could hide as crawling.
"Wait, no! Haley, it's me! Your mother!" Claire yelled, giving up her hide and retreat strategy before Haley tried to exterminate her like the bug she had mistaken her as.
On the other hand, Haley was too scared to get any closer to crush this bug herself. Instead, she was about to call her sister Alex downstairs to eliminate this pest for her. That is until she noticed it acting strangely.
"Wait a minute." She said to herself, bending down and bringing her face closer to the cushion to investigate. "Mom!" she yelped, covering her mouth to ensure that Alex hadn't heard her. Although, it's not like she said, "MOM, WHAT HAPPENED? YOU'RE THE SIZE OF A FLY!" so Alex had no reason to come running down the stairs.
"What happened to you?" Haley asked, still trying to get over the initial shock of seeing her mother in such a fragile state. "You know I almost called Alex down here to crush you," Haley revealed with a giggle, almost laughing at the thought of her mother running from her gargantuan-sized sister's feet.
"This isn't funny, Haley. You need to bring me to Alex. Right now. Maybe she can fix this, somehow." Claire said, ordering around her gigantic daughter.
"Hmm, I'll think about it. But first. What's in it for me?" The bratty seventeen-year-old smiled, realizing she had leverage and power over one of her parents for the first time in her life.
"Haley, we don't have time for this," Claire replied, not ready to deal with her oversized minx of a daughter.
"No, you don't have time for this. I, on the other hand, can do this all day long. Cause I'm grounded, remember?" Haley teased, flashing a smile at her tiny mother on the couch cushion.
"Fine, you're ungrounded! Happy now?" Claire said, already planning to punish her gigantic daughter with an even more harsh punishment when she returned to her former size for blackmailing her.
"Nope, not yet anyway. Where's my phone?" Haley asked, not considering her penalty for sneaking out of the house officially lifted until she got her mobile device back.
"What? I'm not telling you that. You'll get it back once I'm back to my human size." Claire bartered, trying to reel in the rebellious Haley before her demands got out of hand.
"But your not human size now, are you, mom? You look more like a bug to me." Haley teased, trying to target the blonde woman's self-esteem to get what she wanted, a typical strategy used by popular girls across the nation's high schools.
How will Claire respond?
1. Claire refuses to give Haley what she wants, and Haley decides that Claire needs to be punished for being a bad mother. Giving her some time to rethink her answer during a time-out under her butt, sitting on the couch and Claire.
2. Claire reluctantly agrees to tell Haley were her phone is, and she races upstairs without a second thought, leaving Claire defensless on the couch as Alex passes her going down the stairs to watch the news on TV, turning Claire into an unwilling cushion for her giant butt.
3. Claire remains steadfast, refusing to give Haley what she wants. However, Haley still agrees to help her by bringing her to Alex's room, showing her sister their tiny mother and asking her fourteen-year-old sister for help. But first, Alex needs to gatter data on how being shrunk affected Claire with some tests.(Stepping on her, seeing how fast/slow she is, ect...) indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
