Beth sat in Kevin's hand completely beside herself. Her son was a giant to her.... somehow. And he appeared to not seem to want to help. She must be just imagining things. No way her little boy would do anything of the sort. The giant youngster was eyeing her like a new toy, though, as she sat here. She avoided his eye contact as she averted her eyes to her surroundings instead. She looked at the giant hand she sat upon. It was huge. How could this be her nine year old boy's hand? She pressed her hand against the skin of his palm. It was somehow both soft and stiff. She glided her fingers along it. It was leathery... and damp? Was he sweating? She glanced to her side. Kevin's thumb was enormous. She had to touch it. She couldn't explain why. She reached her hand out and rested it on the thumb's pad. Her fingers could feel the course surface. The fingerprint created texture to her tiny fingers. The thumb wiggled a bit, catching her off guard. She withdrew her hand instantly and looked at Kevin. He was grinning and a small giggle left him. She looked away again, blushing. Suddenly the titanic pre-teen stood and Beth felt her stomach drop a bit from the altitude change. He was walking across his room and she was coming along in his hand.
"Kevin.... honey.... you have to help, mommy." She said as sweetly as her nervous voice allowed. He just looked down at her momentarily, then went about his business. He came to his closet and he opened the door. He knelt down and again Beth felt the sense of going down an elevator. He began to move things around, while keeping his occupied hand steady. Beth couldn't tell what was happening from her vantage point. She turned around and leaned against his fingers and looked over them. Kevin was rummaging through his closet. Pushing aside toys, clothes and boxes. Then he stopped and lifted something before standing and turning back towards his desk and walking. Beth moved over to see what it was just in time to see him set it down on the desk. She recognized it and her heart sank.
Kevin, not that long ago, had a hamster. Skippy. It had passed away and he was heart broken. It had been his favorite little friend for years. He'd kept it's empty cage in hopes that one day of getting another. Skippy's cage now sat on his desk again. Ready for it's new resident to move in. "Kevin..... why is that out? What are you thinking?" Beth asked.... her voice cracking. He didn't answer. His hand just opened the small latch and swung the cage door open. "K-Kevin.... don't you DARE put me in there!" She ordered. Kevin lowered his hand and moved it towards the opening. "Kevin! I forbid you from putting your mother in that cage!" She pounded a tiny fist on his thumb. "Stop it this instant!" Kevin's hand entered the cage. It tilted and Beth slide off and landed on the cage litter. As she sat up she saw the hand retreat. She stood up and ran to the opening, but the litter on the floor made her almost lose her footing. By the time she reached the opening the door had clanged shut and Kevin secured the latch. Beth gripped the bars of the door and pushed. It failed to move even an inch. She started shaking the door as violently as she could in anger. "Noooo!" She could feel a shadow fall over her and the cage. She spun around and saw Kevin watching from outside the cage at her every move. She ran to the front and pressed against the bars. "Kevin! Please! You can't put me in here!"
"You'll be nice and safe in there, mom." He said with a grin. "I'll take real good care of you. You'll see."
"Kevin.... take me out of this damn cage and...." Do what exactly, she thought. She had no idea how she even became so small in the first place. "....and.... tell someone so they can help me!" "But I'm helping you." Kevin answered. "You can't help me. I need a grown up! Call your father!"
"Nuh-uh.... he'll just take you away. I wanna keep you." Kevin answered.
That part made Beth's blood cold. He wanted her to stay like this?! "Kevin.... you can't keep me like this! Like.... like... some goddamn pet!" She shook the cage bars in frustration.
"You are a pet now, though. Look at ya." A giant finger slide between the bars and playfully poked her. Beth backed away, the finger followed her until she had backed away far enough that Kevin could no longer reach her. "Aww...."
"Kevin.... I'm your mother. You can't keep me here like I'm yours." She crossed her arms over her chest defensively now.
"Well I found you so I get to keep you. Fair and square." Kevin said.
"Please..... I can't live like this!" Beth got on her knees and begged. "Kevin, honey..... please help me."
Kevin sat there pondering her pleas. He shrugged and reached for the cage door. "Ok.... if you want out so bad I guess I can play with you now."
Beth gasped and scooted back. "N-no!" She exclaimed.
Kevin paused. "Well what is it? Out of the cage or not?"
