This choice: An experiment gone wrong • Go Back...Chapter #4An experiment gone wrong by: Gigajules "...And that leads us into our next project." Professor Cheerilee said, pulling up her next powerpoint before stepping in front of the projector. Twilight's ears perked up at the mention. Not that she hadn't been paying attention before, of course, but new projects always got her excited in a way her friends couldn't really understand. Especially in her current class, Biology, which had quickly become one of her favorite courses.
"As you know, we've been studying various hormones and their effects on the body." The professor began, "And so in this project, I'd like you to pick a hormone from the list on the rubric, and theorize novel ways it could be introduced."
Oooh, that sounds interesting! Twilight smiled, mind buzzing with ideas already.
"At the end of the week, you'll each come up front and present your theory, and we'll hold debates on weather or not your application could work!"
Twilight froze. Presenting? Not only presenting, but then answering questions and debating in front of the whole class???
"You'll be graded on how well you can demonstrate your knowledge of the hormone, and how much thought you've put into the application of your theories. Dismissed!"
Twilight staggered behind everyone else as they left the room, all of her excitement gone at the prospect of having to eventually talk in front of rows and rows of people.
---
"Wait, so what's the problem?" Rainbow Dash asked, mouth full of french fries. She swallowed before continuing. "S'not like it's hard to get you talking about science nerd stuff."
"You're my friends." Twilight replied, "It's different."
"How? It's just talking."
Rarity rolled her eyes at her friend's bluntness. Twilight had met with her friends at the Sugarcube Cafe after classes, as was their usual tradition, and Rainbow Dash had zeroed in on Twilight's stressed mood right away. Not that she seemed to understand once it'd been explained to her.
"Not everyone can be like you, Rainbow." Applejack started, "Some people like to think before they talk."
"Hey!"
Pinkie giggled at the remark. Sunset, however, didn't reply, staring at the cherry in her drink, seemingly deep in thought.
"Perhaps there's some way we could help?" Rarity asked, "Maybe we could help you record something?"
"No good, I have to be able to answer questions." Twilight shook her head, "And if I have one of you present for me it'll just look like I got someone to do my project for me-"
"That's it!" Sunset said, smacking her fist to her palm, getting everyone else's attention with the outburst. "Estrogen!"
"Gesundheit."
"No, listen," Sunset started, "Twilight, the reason you're answering questions is to demonstrate that you understand the experiment and hormone enough to be confident in a theory, right?"
"Yes?"
"Then pick Estrogen!" She declared, "If you find a novel way to introduce Estrogen to the body and make it, and then use it on yourself, you can demonstrate your knowledge and theory right away, without having to answer questions!"
"That's a great idea!" Twilight lit up at the suggestion, "Plus I'll be sure to get extra credit for going the extra mile, hehehe..."
"Then I guess all that's left is to come up with the method." Applejack smiled, "It's already in pills, right?"
"And injections." Twilight nodded, "I wouldn't want to make those anyway, it wouldn't exactly be 'novel.'"
In the end, Twilight decided to make a feminizing... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
