Valerie and Victor were both lucky enough to have made it to their late twenties, having never been asked to be a meal to any of the Wolfes. The two of them were some of the oldest livestock on the farm, not counting John, the resident human watchdog. While humans generally didn't have wedding ceremonies, Valerie and Victor were essentially married, spending all their time together and sleeping in the same bunk.
One night, as they lay in bed, entwined in each other's embrace, Valorie had a most peculiar dream. She dreamt she stood in a white void, completely surrounded by oblivion. Suddenly, everything began to grow brighter, blinding her as a disembodied voice of indeterminate gender spoke.
""You shall be the mother of humanity's salvation. Your child will lead all humankind to freedom. You must not mention this vision to anyone but your mate, lest you endanger the child."
Valorie woke with a gasp, waking Victor beside her. "What's the matter?" He said, concerned. As Valorie told him about her dream, Victor's eyes widened in shock. "I can't believe it. I had that very same dream!" For a long moment, they lay there in silence, contemplating their shared vision. "What are the chances we both have the same dream at once?" Valorie said "It can't be a coincidence."
They looked at each other, and in that moment, they knew what they were meant to do. "Are you sure about this?" Victor asked "I'm sure." Said Valorie. "If what we dreamed was real, that means we have to do this." It was at that very moment, they began to...
