Sakura Wars Premise and Characters for those unaware

The Sakura Wars franchise is set in an alternate universe steampunk 1920s-1940s. Despite those years the games have technology like steam powered computers and in the most recent game steam powered phones.

Each game in the franchise stars a group of theater actresses who are secretly a demon slaying squad who protect Tokyo in mechs known as Koubu, the characters are as follows

Flower Divison Characters

Ichiro Ogami

Main character of the first four games. After being transferred from the navy, Ogami was initially disappointed to be a ticket clipper at the Great Imperial Theater, but he quickly grew to love hid new position at the theater and everyone there.

He was later transferred to the Paris Division before being transferred back to the Tokyo team in Sakura Wars 3. Resulting in him having a girlfriend in both Paris and Tokyo.

While stern and serious when the situation calls for it, Ogami also has a goofy side which causes him to do things such as forget to wear pants to work or not control his legs outside of the bath

Sakura Shinguji

The poster girl of the franchise. Sakura is the most recent descendant of the Shinguji family, who have fought demons for generations. She is a very sweet and kind girl to everyone she knows, even if she has a bit of a temper and gets jealous over people spending time with Ogami very easily. When it comes to acting she is very talented but also prone to accidents such as tripping on stage.

Maria Tachibana

Maria is the voice of responsibility and discipline in the often chaotic Flower Division. Whether being in the middle to break up an argument between Sumire and Kanna or trying to ensure the safety of the overly enthusiastic Iris and Kohran, everyone can count on Maria keeping a cool head and ensuring the Flower Division's safety.

Maria had a very traumatic childhood as she fought in the Japan-Russian war, losing her captain there initially made her very harsh toward Ogami but she grew to respect him with time

Iris

The youngest member of the original Flower Division. Iris is energetic, cheerful, and kind. Rarely seen with anything less than a smile, Iris often keeps the spirits of the Flower Division high. Her energetic personality also charms the many patrons of the Imperial Theater. Despite her personality, Iris hates to be called a child. Calling her childish or a child will cause her to lash out in an, ironically, childish manner.

Sumire Kanzaki

An established actress of great talent and self-professed star of the Imperial Combat Revue, Sumire is arrogant and conceited. This is likely because her father and grandfather spoiled her during the brief moments they saw her when not running their company. Despite her arrogant attitude, she is a skilled pilot and highly capable of wielding a naginata, and can sometimes be rather insightful. She is a daughter born into the elite Kanzaki industrial clan, whose factory produced the spiritual armors.

Sumire often fights with Sakura and Kanna due to their differing personalities, she is also the member of the Flower Division to most openly flirt with Ogami.

Kanna Kirishima

Always hungry and tomboyish, the fairly easygoing Kanna serves as the group's raw muscle. Kanna is the master of a Martial Arts style that allows her to easily kill a bull with her bare hands. She sometimes gets into an argument with Sumire over their differences in attitude.

Orihime Soletta

An Italian-Japanese girl with a thick Italian accent, Orihime was at first cordial to all of her fellow teammates except for Ichiro Ogami. The reason she holds a grudge against Ogami is because her Japanese father, Seiya Ogata, abandoned her

The most striking feature in her personality is, without a doubt, the fact that Orihime is extremely chatty, always speaking loudly and fast without pauses, and being very easy to be angered.

Reni

As a young child in Germany, Reni was part of a program that engineered high spiritual power children called "Wunderkind" to be used as child soldiers. As a result of being a subject of that project, Reni did not have a normal childhood and had her emotions suppressed, only thinking in militaristic terms of how to best bring about victory in battle. Thus, she was largely cold and distant when she first joined the Imperial Combat Revue.

For the first few months on the team, Ogami did not realize Reni was a girl until a very unfortunate incident at the beach.

Li Kohran

Kohran has a vibrant, upbeat personality and a pronounced sense of humor. She is thus considered the Revue's "mood-maker" and often plays a lead role in the Flower Division's comedy productions. She is an avid inventor, constantly creating new machines and gadgets with the sole intent of improving the lives of others. Though her inventions frequently fail, often resulting in large explosions, she rarely ever loses her determination and instead looks forward to her future projects. She is particularly fond of the Kobu spiricle armors, treating them and referring to them as if they were her own children. Despite her outward optimism, the scars of her childhood trauma as a war orphan run deep. She feels a profound anger towards those who would use technology to harm innocent people, and the thought of her inventions ever being used towards that end terrifies her.

Ikki Yoneda

Commander of the Flower Divisionand owner of the Great Imperial Theater. Due to his unbelievable love to drink Sake, it's nearly impossible to not see him already drunk. With that he always speak his mind out, being normally aggressively funny, brutally honest and sometimes unfortunately rude. Outside of his drunk moments, he does have a very carefree attitude, which sometimes irritates people like Oogami(At the start of the first game) and Sumire(As she bickers because sometimes Yoneda choices Sakura as the lead actress, much for her chagrin), almost never feeling bad when a stage act get failures, as he simply finds funny or is not bothered at all.

But although his drunkyard funny side, Yoneda does have a monstruous level importance for all the Teikoku Kagekidan members. Being a extremely competent commander and manager. He also hides well behind the drunk moments his deep sadness due not only for the loss of his beloved comrades, but also a guilty feeling of turning girls into soldiers, always saying "that a father would never ever turn his own daughters soldiers, nor sends them into a death battlefield".

Ayame Fujieda

Ayame is a serious and dedicated vice-commander of the Great Imperial Theater, and also normally acts as a talent seeker.

Ayame has a deeply caring behavior for all of her subordinates and comrades from the Flower Division, sometimes being even playful and teasing, with this causing some misunderstanding from Sakura. Although her professionalism and caring side, she hides a strong pain of losing Shinnosuke Yamazaki, who she loved.

The Wind Division

This trio of characters (Tsubaki, Yuri, and Kasumi) serve as the staff of the Great Imperial Theater.

Yuichi Kayama

Ogami's best friend he met in the navy. Unlike Ogami, who is hotblooded and determined, Kayama is calm, intelligent and analytic. Kayama also has a spontaneous and funny personality being always optimistic and playing with his guitar.

Also, unlike his best friend, Kayama has better experience with womens, and most of times, he shares some advices about flirting them, much for Ogami's disgrace and chagrin(Especially considering major part of these advices involves some pervert-like things)

The Rose Division

Two gay men (Kotone and Yokihiko) and one trans woman (Kikunojo) who live in the basement of the Great Imperial Theater. They were kicked out of the navy for their ‘personalities’ but were given a home at the Great Imperial Theater by Yoneda and Ogami. They currently serve as staff there.

Paris Flower Division Characters

Erica Fontaine

Erica is a nun in training and a cabaret dancer for Le Chattes Noires. A devout Christian, who genuinely wants to help people in need. She, because of her clumsy nature, will often make the problem worse. Sometimes, she will allow her imagination to get the better of her and believe her dreams to be real.

Erica has a tendency to be oblivious in serious situations. Often falling asleep, ignoring what is happening around her, or contently eating amongst chaos. She has a great interest in Japan and its culture, although her knowledge is often incorrect. She carries a cross-shaped machine gun named "Raphael" concealed inside her dress.

Glycine Bluemer

Born as a member of a noble family, Glycine grew up as a respective and responsible aristocrat. She's an expert on close combat with a battle axe as her weapon of choice. Glycine became a member of the Paris Assault Force after being discovered by Erica that she possessed strong spiritual powers. She works at Chattes Noires as a dancer in secret, without any outsiders revealing her as a noble.

As the European counterpart of Sumire (Being also a rich girl from a important family) she sometimes sounds harsh and is very conceited. But unlike, and VERY unlike, Sumire, she's not nearly closer to being arrogant. In compensation, she's extremely aggressive at words, and even in actions. She has a very short temperament and always acts like a soldier, and any sign of actions that means a insult to her pride she immediately prepares her axe to threat fighting the person

Lobelia Carlini

Given the title as "the flame demon" by the public, Lobelia was considered the number one public enemy by law enforcers, due to her role as a professional thief. Police were unable to apprehend her, until she was captured by Paris assault agents headed by the vice commander. Once arrested, Lobelia was given the choice to serve a prison sentence of one thousand years or join the Fleur Division by Isabel Lilac.

Personality wise, Lobelia is someone very distinct from the Paris Flower Division as she is harsh, rude, blunt, easily aggressive and extremely competitive, who never loses a chance to insult the others. Lobelia is also very alcoholic, and strongly loves getting money(From thiefing or from doing the "missions" alongside her partners).

Hanabi Kitaoji

Hanabi suffered a very strong Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after losing her fiance in a marine accident that happened during their wedding. Due to that she had a very deep depression and weak will to life. Hanabi even considered in some moments to commit suicide so she could join Philippe in Otherworld.

But aside of her fragile spirit, Hanabi was normally responsible and lovely with all the people. Her will to live shined brighter after realizing that she wasn't alone, thanks to the help of Ichiro Ogami and all the members of the Paris Kagekidan. Getting rid of her depression, and having set in the stone her will to protect other people Hanabi turns even more smiley and determined to help people and cheer them as long is necessary. She serves as the "brains" and "calmer" member of the group, normally being sensible and respectful of other people feelings.

Coquelicot

Coquelicot has a very strong love of animals, cats being her favorite. She likes to think that the animals she communicates with are able to understand her. She is genuinely concerned for the welfare of all the animals she encounters. At the Cirque de Europe, where she works, she works on nursing a tiger with an injured arm back to health so that it can stay and not be sold by the ringmaster, who wants to get rid of it. While she deeply loves animals, she is also not afraid to be firm when disciplining them, out of concern for their well-being. At one point, she remarks that if she is not strict when raising them while they're young, then when they're older they may injure or kill someone and have to be destroyed.

Grand-Mere

Commander of the Paris Flower Division Also referred to as Countess Lilac, who was widely favored in Paris society, and always seen with her cat, Napoleon. She was a former stage dancer who married Count Lilac where their love transcended their large difference in status. But there were those who admonish the favor to which she was slandered, but managed to achieve the high society's acknowledgment with her own skills. She was addressed as "Grand-Mère" as she was like a mother figure to all the revue members to whom they rely upon and admire. During combat missions, she is very strict where there are time she would take rough means necessary.

Mell & Ci

Staff of the theater the Paris Flower Division work at. They are extremely close to each other and friendly to the whole Paris Division. They also primarily wear maid uniforms when working.

New York Star Division

Shinjiro Taiga

Main character of Sakura Wars V and captain of the New York Star Division. Shinjiro is a courageous young man willing to put his life on the line to protect his friends and New York. He seeks to embody the spirit of the samurai and works to follow that path.

Outside of his courage, Shinjiro is similar to his uncle, Ichiro Ogami, in his eagerness to help others. This drive, however, is built on a desire to prove himself, especially after being shunned for not being his uncle when he first arrives in New York.

Shinjiro, unlike his uncle, is more emotionally vulnerable. The hostile treatment he receives after arriving in New York nearly causes him to break and return home until he receives encouragement from Diana Caprice and Gemini Sunrise which gives him the strength to help around the theater until he proves himself.

Shinjiro also has a cross dressing alter-ego known as Peppermint who is loved by the public.

Gemini Sunrise

Gemini is a cheerful but clumsy cowgirl who traveled from Texas to New York on her master's dying wish. She joins the Little Lip Theater as the theater's cleaning girl who has dreams of one day performing and becoming a part of the Star Division and becoming a proper lady in the process. She has a very bright and friendly personality though she is prone to daydreaming.

Gemini attempts to fit in with the people of New York but has a hard time due to her cowgirl personality. Because of this, she gets easily depressed whenever the other citizens see her as nothing more as a country hick, even considering moving back to Texas. Being trained as a samurai, she has a great love and respect for the Japanese culture and would love to travel to Japan herself someday. Her love for Japan puts in a very close relation with her friend Shinjiro who came from Japan.

Cherion Archer

Cheiron is a lawyer from Harlem who is hot-tempered and initially obsessed with the supremacy of the law. This was caused by an early case she took to help a friend who was framed, however she lost that case and he was subsequently arrested. Thus she sticks to the law as the only way to solve things.

After Shinjiro and the others showed her otherwise, she mellows out while keeping her drive and even becomes an older sister figure to Rosita. As she lightens up, she also starts having more fun with the other Star Division members and her old gang.

She appears to have some sort of rivalry with her comrade Subaru mostly due to their opposite personalities. Subaru's distant and sometimes cold attitude angers Cheiron who perceives Subaru as a pretentious know-it-all who thinks everyone around her is incapable of standing at her side.

Diana Caprice

Diana is a frail girl, and has a deep love for animals, often feeding birds in Central Park. She's also kind-hearted as she seems bright and cheerful and helps Shinjiro overcome his sadness over not feeling needed in New York. She has a big love of Shakespeare's work, especially Hamlet as she got excited to see the show over at the Littlelip Theater.

Rosarita Aries

As a young child, Rikaritta is an energetic girl with knowledge of some notions. She also enjoys eating, mostly meat, and can even cook pancakes that she learned from her father. Sometimes, she mentions eating Niccolo, calling it her ''Plan B'' should she ever gets stuck in the desert or in a similar situation. Despite that, she truly loves Niccolo and wants to protect it if it gets in danger.

Behind Rikaritta's soft nature lies actually a young girl that is afraid of being alone and abandoned. Following her father's demise, she fears that getting too close to other people will result in them going away. This is shown when Shinjiro protects her from Dokurobo's attack which results in her secluding herself at her home.

Subaru Kujo

Subaru is a quiet, very secretive person. With almost nothing known about them besides their birthplace and name, they keep a lot of themselves hidden. Subaru is very quiet, only speaking whenever they are asked to or when commenting on something that needs their experience. They have no issue with not saying anything and will typically meet Shinjiro with silence if he is silent.

Subaru does not identify as a man or a woman, they believe that gender means nothing in the grand scheme of things, and they are just Subaru and that is enough.

Subaru is very confident in their skills. As a former member of the European Star Division, they have years of experience on the battlefield and have no problem with tearing demons apart.

Michael Sunnyside

Commander of the New York Star Division Sunnyside appears as a rich tycoon who lives in a gorgeous mansion in Central Park and goes by the motto "Life is Entertainment!". He's usually seen as a happy man who takes everything lightly much to the annoyance of Cheiron. He takes interest in Japanese culture such as sweets and bonsais and thereby respects Shinjiro who he calls by many names such as ''Shinsky'' and ''Shinmillion'''. He really cares for the people of New York and his workers especially his niece Diana Caprice.

As a business man and Commander of the New York Combat Revue, Sunnyside takes into account that the New York Combat Revue's priority is to protect the people of New York even in the most difficult situations. However, while he has a serious side, he can also use cold logic to protect the city even when it requires cruel and unwanted actions. This is shown when he suggested sending Gemini to psychotherapy to erase Geminine's existence or sacrifice a member of the Five-Rings Warriors to seal away Nobunaga. While he is not a cruel man, his choice of words and logic have shown to create distrust and disgust by the Star Division.

Anri Yoshino

Staff member of the New York theater. She is a misandrist who hates men and initially has a very hostile relation with Shinjiro. However she softens up on him after seeing his Peppermint persona

Shin Flower Division

Seijuro Kamiyama

Captain of the New Flower Division. Seijuro Kamiyama is very serious when it comes to his duties, but he is also the goofiest protagonist in Sakura Wars. Very willing to yell about the things he loves or quickly defend his ridiculous actions, Seijuro can be seen as a great source of comedy

Sakura Amamiya

Much like Sakura Shinguji (Amamiya's predecessor and idol) of the Flower Division, Amamiya is shown to be positive and cheerful among the group and has displayed clumsiness with her performances at the beginning of the game. She also shares the same views of justice as Shinguji and has a tendency to feel jealous whenever Seijuro Kamiyama gets close to other members of the division.

Sakura is also shown to be close to all members of the division already as she has gotten to know everyone's habits, such as Clarissa Snowflake's concentration with her books and Azami Mochizuki's long absence from the theatre. She is also described to have an impetuous side to herself as her master Hakushuu Murasame described how Sakura intended to dive into a river during the dead of Winter to steel her mind and body in her youth.

Sakura looks towards Seijuro with romantic feelings and can get easily flustered whenever Seijuro gets close to her intimately or catches her in a state of undressing or bathing (albeit not without punishing the captain herself).

Hatusho Shinomone

Hatsuho is a pure-hearted girl who loves her friends from the Flower Division as if were family. She also loves her hometown of Shitamachi and the festivals and people in it. She's usually seen as joyful. Hatsuho can sometimes have a grouchy attitude when she's dealing with people or situations that do not please her. Despite her brazen nature, she is a mediator of the members of the Flower Division.

One of Hatsuho's most defining traits is her relationship with her childhood friend Sakura. While she really loves Sakura and stands by her side, both girls were shown to have a few ups and downs in their friendship. They had a huge argument in their childhood that led to them not talking to each other for a long time. Also, Hatsuho was shown to feel upset that Sakura was chosen by Seijuro to be Captain instead of her. This feeling of bitterness and comparison led to Hatsuho becoming reckless and almost getting herself killed in a battle. However, she definitely treats her friend Sakura as one of the most important people in her life and chooses to follow her no matter what.

Azami Mochizuki

Azami is shown to be very dedicated to her role as both a ninja and a member of the Flower Division. The young kunoichi would usually perform her training and make a habit of hiding around the Grand Imperial Theatre and keep an eye on anyone whom she finds suspicious. Such cases include performing water ninjustu arts in the bathhouse despite not intending to bathe and trying to capture some of Mr. I's henchmen who were pursuing her.

The young kunoichi also tends to correct her peers whenever they do not think of her as a ninja. When Seijuro Kamiyama points out her bright colored outfit does not fit the image of a ninja, she would counter by explaining that her clothes allow her to blend in with civilians and that ninjas wearing black clothing just only cries out the obvious to anyone who thinks of that stereotype.

Despite her role as a ninja, Azami has a childish personality and curiosity that befits her age. Most of her time, she would go to Hiromi Hongou's shop to buy manju sweets and once even could not resist pressing the buttons on a Peanut statue to find out its functions. Her foster grandfather Yattansai Mochizuki also holds onto her picture diary that contains records of daily training as a kunoichi when she was much younger.

Clarissa Snowflake

Claris is a bookworm who is often seen engrossed in a novel and she is totally absorbed into whatever book she has whenever she is reading. This complete mental focus, however, impairs her ability to notice the world around her. It has been demonstrated that while engrossed in literature she is utterly unaware of her surroundings and other people even when they are shouting her name into her ear or waving at her face. She also expressed the interest to become a screenwriter for plays.

When she first met Seijuro Kamiyama, Clarissa has shown to be quite pessimistic at the idea of a man leading the Imperial Combat Revue. This, combined with the messy state of the Revue at the time, has led Clarissa to believe that the current Flower Division were never going to live up to the grandeur and legendary status of the original Flower Division.

It is said that Clarissa is quite a force to be reckoned with when scorned. She can turn spiteful and has even been shown threatening the source of her ire using her Libromancy. However, her association with her family's tainted history of magic and destruction has made her afraid of using her power to harm people. Rumor has it that during such times she uses quite foul language.

Anastasia Palma

Anastasia is quite confident and determined, in her turn very cautious. In the fight she stands out for not hesitating when fighting and always supporting her teammates above all. from the way she usually acts, she shows that it can be something cold or very serious, in the same strict way. Besides that, she shows that she has a great passion for singing and theater, due to her past.

Klara

Klara is a shy girl who, after witnessing the downfall of the Moscow Combat Revue before her, developed feelings of uneasiness around other people. Arriving in a new country, along with meeting new people, has made her fearful of her surrondings. When confronted or captured by an enemy, Klara mostly stands still in fear or calls her friends for help as she doesn't know how to face such enemies.

At first, she only had trust for Seijuro Kamiyama as he's the one who rescued her in Russia . As such, she was nervous to see him leave her behind in Tokyo. However, Klara opened herself to the members of the Imperial Combat Revue's Flower Division, especially Sakura who promised to watch over her in Seijuro's absence.

Klara is very sweet and cares about her friends who have gently welcomed her as part of the family. As the series progress, Klara is shown to mature quite a bit as she acknowledges that the Flower Division is her new family that watches over her. After Klara recovers her memories, she is shown to stand up against her older sister Leyla who questions her decision to stay with the Flower Division. She believes that when a friend is hurt or sad, it's up to her to help and make them feel better. She also has child-like curiosity and has developed interest in things befitting her age such as taking care of a stray kitten and going on a ''date'' with Seijuro and Sakura.

There are plenty more side characters in the series, but these are all the main ones
