Chapter #4

The Climb

    by: Gojira6 Author IconMail Icon
Akari's walk to the porch steps was thankfully uneventful. Normally, it would have been a short walk, but at her current size it had felt like a mile. But the walk had been the easy part. Next came the long climb. Akari had to tilt her head up just to look at the top of the first step.

Taking another deep breathe, Akari stood on her tip toes and jumped in order to reach the nearest handhold. She barely grabbed a hold of it, and had to scramble to stabilize her footing as a result. There weren't many viable hand and footholds upon the first step so Akari had to leap to what few there where three more times. On her final leap she managed to grab the ledge of the step and as she scrambled to stabilize her footing, in order to pull herself up, Akari felt her right fancy zori sandal slip off her foot and fall to the ground below.

"Shit," Akari muttered in response. Realizing she had come too far in her climb to go back for it, she accepted she'd have to make do with one sandal and continued. With a groan Akari pulled herself over the ledge and onto the top of the step. Panting heavily she quickly stood up. After all, there was no time to rest as she still had two more steps to climb.

The second step was more weathered than the first step, so there where plenty of splinters that could be used as hand and footholds. Thus it was much easier for Akari to climb, even if the size still made it slow going. Eventually, she made it to the top of the second step, and proceeded to the third step. The final step was even more weathered and the splinters would often catch on Akari's kimono and poke her exposed her exposed skin as she climbed.

Upon reaching the porch Akari fell on her back in exhaustion as she panted heavily. Taking the moment to rest she turned her head slightly to look back out where she had just come from, and saw that the sun was about to set. She wasn't surprised though. It had been late in the afternoon when Akari had gone out to check the mail, and with how long it took her to walk and then climb up the porch steps it made sense that evening would be upon her. However, Akari and her family had a tendency to leave most of the lights off during daylight hours and just let the natural sunlight pour into any room with windows. That meant visibility was going to be low to none existent when Akari got back into the house, and she was now to small to reach the switches for any of the lights.

Upon catching her breathe Akari finally stood back up and made her way to the front door. She had closed it as to not accidently let any of her family's pokemon out, but looking at it Akari realized was just small enough to squeeze beneath the door and get in that way. However, Akari first needed to decide what she was going to do once she was inside. Her family's pokemon seemed like her best bet since they would be more likely keep her safe at her current size then a wild pokemon, and she had four options to choose from there. There was her mom's glameow and espeon, Akari's own hyper yamper, and of course her father's salandit, thoughshe felt like that last one never really liked her. Akari did also technically have the option of just trying to hide somewhere in the house and minimize the risk of said pokemon mistaking her for a tasty treat or something. Akari ponder her options for a moment and then decided to go with...
