Within the Koopa Kingdom's main castle, a figure sat on the throne, drumming their fingers on the armrest as they listened to a Koopa deliver a report. Their head was propped up on their other hand, affecting an air of boredom.
"... and so, Your Evilness, we had to withdraw from our fort in Sarasaland. Princess Daisy brought a force consisting of the four kingdoms' armies to bear, and our position was untenable! I beg your forgiveness, almighty Evil one! I throw myself at your - "
The figure on the throne held up a dainty hand. "That's enough. You did the right thing." The sultry feminine voice was not what one might expect from the Koopa Kingdom's ruler. They leaned forward out of the shadows, revealing a human figure. She was tall, and wore a strapless black dress that reached down to the floor. Her hair was blonde, and done up in a somewhat wild ponytail. Her eyes were blue, and her skin was fair. On top of her head rested a pink and gold crown.
All in all, she looked like a somewhat taller Princess Peach of the Mushroom Kingdom... if Peach had a pair of horns, a spiked Koopa shell on her back, and a spiked Koopa tail. She continued to address the Koopa messenger. "I will not punish you for saving your lives. Our fort in Sarasaland was meant to be a recon outpost only, not a foothold for invasion. Sarasaland is, after all, not our primary goal." She sat back. "You're dismissed."
The Koopa bowed low. "Your mercy is more than I deserve, Your Eminence! I shall take this to - "
A small fireball left the woman's mouth, striking the floor in front of the Koopa. "I said, you're dismissed," she reiterated, her eyes glowing slightly.
The Koopa got the hint and hurried out of the room after bowing once more. Once he was out of sight, the woman on the throne sighed. She massaged her temples as she finally let herself show the signs of a headache. "Why can't people take the hint the first time?" she complained.
"They're not exactly used to your newfound sense of mercy," came the response. Looking up, she spotted Kamek the Magikoopa leader floating toward her on a broom. "You've changed so much in such a short time, after all, Bowsette."
Queen Bowsette smiled. "It's all thanks to this thing, here," she said, indicating the crown. "I'd still be my cranky old self if I hadn't found it."
"And I'm certain many are thankful for your change in attitude, my dear," Kamek said. "I believe that was the last bit of business for the day."
"Oh, thank goodness," Bowsette said as she stood from her throne and stretched. "I'm going to go to my room for a bit." She walked off, the black pumps she wore clacking on the stone floor.
* * * * *
As Bowsette entered her room, she looked at herself in the full-length mirror of her walk-in closet. She smiled as she moved some of her hair behind her ear.
It had been a month since she'd discovered the Super Crown, buried deep within the Rock Candy Mines. Back then, she was still Bowser, King of the Koopas, with a terrible temper and very little mercy. He'd thought the Super Crown would provide him the power needed to bring the Mushroom Kingdom to its knees. But when he'd put the Crown on, he'd changed. Changed into Bowsette.
Going from a massive King Koopa to a comparatively small and wimpy human female (with Koopa attachments) had been a massive shock to him at first, but he'd kept the Crown on due to stubbornness. He wanted the power that came with the Crown. And he'd found it... somewhat.
Being Bowsette hadn't just changed Bowser's body, it had effects on his mind as well. Bowsette was calmer than Bowser, and more inclined to diplomacy. And this had a marked effect on the Koopa Kingdom's policies with other kingdoms. In just one month, Bowsette had managed to secure trade agreements with not only the neighboring Mushroom Kingdom, but also lands further afield, such as the kingdoms of the East Islands. This had resulted in unprecedented income for the Koopa Kingdom, which no longer had to raid its closest neighbor to fund itself.
This had resulted in a dilemma for Bowser: for years, he'd tried to kidnap Princess Peach Toadstool, monarch of the Mushroom Kingdom, and force her to be his bride, all in an attempt to claim the Mushroom Kingdom's wealth for his own. Each time, he'd been thwarted by his rival, Mario. It was an endless game, and one that Mario always seemed to win. But with Bowsette's new policies, it was no longer necessary to invade the Mushroom Kingdom. But with such invasions having been all Bowser knew for years, what was he to do now?
The answer, it turned out, was surprisingly simple. If the Koopa Kingdom took a step back from being the kingdom of conquest, then surely some other threat would emerge, seeking to claim the Mushroom Kingdom or even the world. And so Bowsette had retooled her military. She was going to be the bulwark against whatever threats might emerge from the shadows. No longer would the Koopa Kingdom seek to conquer other kingdoms and take their resources by force. Far easier to trade, and thus keep her forces strong for any problems that might emerge.
This had led to Bowser spending more and more time as Bowsette since first putting on the Super Crown. Not only was Bowsette calmer and less prone to violence than Bowser, he found he liked spending time in that seemingly weak form. As a King Koopa, Bowser was a massive being, with muscle and bulk that made it difficult sometimes to move around. But Bowsette was so much smaller, and thus could get around easier. And the softness of her skin had led to Bowsette... 'exploring' her new body quite thoroughly. She'd made certain to lock her bedroom door before doing so, however. She wasn't stupid.
That wasn't to say Bowser had completely gone away, though. He still had to make some appearances as himself. No one outside the Koopa Kingdom knew of Bowsette, as all her deals were done through diplomats and treaties without meeting face-to-face. When meetings were required, Bowser attended as himself. The meeting which solidified his trade agreement with the Mushroom Kingdom had been awkward, especially as he couldn't put on the Super Crown to make use of Bowsette's keener sense of diplomacy. Still, he'd managed, and he even got to enjoy the look of shock on Mario's face when the agreement was fully signed. Clearly the plumber hadn't expected Bowser to actually go through with the deal.
Bowsette was broken from her reflection by... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
