Outside the window, the blaring sirens roared past, X wearily lifted his/her head, swallowing the saliva that was about to drip and shaking he/her numb arm.
On the computer screen in front of him/her, there was still a long list of unclosed web pages that X had been browsing before falling asleep. The last page showed the opening time: 2:32 AM on Saturday.
"Oh damn, it's already 8 o'clock in the morning?"
X glanced at the time in the bottom left corner of the computer, 8:12 AM, then sighed and took a big sip of cold coffee. X opened the window, took a deep breath, and rubbed his/her dark circles under his/her eyes.
Returning to the computer once again, X looked at his/her browsing history and helplessly leaned back in the chair. This was all not a dream.
X remembered waking up early yesterday and discovering that something was wrong with this world. And only X found it strange, while everyone around them seemed completely unaware, including X's parents.
X took a day off and spent the whole day searching for information online until they fell asleep in front of the computer in the early morning.
Now X is certain that this is a parallel world.
In this world, a few years ago, a strange green ore with widespread distribution and mysterious power was discovered. Although some countries have legislated against its use, they don't exclude researching it or people who have been influenced by this power.
In any case, currently, 1% to 2% of the world's population has been actively or passively affected by this mysterious power.
Of course, the first group of people to discover it were mostly passive, the remaining people chose to use this power willingly.
People in the worlds have been actively searching for ways to reverse its effects.
And it is said that there has been recent progress in the research, and it is highly possible that a breakthrough will be made soon (although it's only a possibility).
As a result, some people who were initially skeptical have chosen to give this mysterious power a try in advance!
For example, in X's room, there is a poster signed by his/her favorite actress. Of course, in this parallel world, the same poster is also pasted in the same spot.
However, the woman in the poster has two heads, and what X finds hard to accept is that in X's original world, the owners of those two heads were archenemies.
"Oh my God, everything is a mess..."
X, feeling dejected, went to the kitchen. Just then, his/her phone rang—it was a reminder from the memo.
"Remember to pay the utility bills... and pick up... Oh my goodness!"
With a piece of toast in his/her mouth, X hurriedly started to prepare.
In this world, X's original relationships have also undergone some changes.
For instance, X's significant other, who used to live in the same city, is now in a long-distance relationship in this world!
The contact list reminded X to pick he/she up from the airport because X's significant other is ready to move to the city where X lives!
