"I'll explain after class," you say.
"Uh. Right."
The rest of first period passes awkwardly. Your conversation has ground to a halt, but it's as bad one way or the other to just pick up your things and sit somewhere else, so the two of you sit there in awkward silence as you take notes that you probably won't even use. Flipping through Jess's notebook, you see that yours aren't quite up to her standard, but they're not too far behind.
Still, it's a relief when the bell rings, and you stand. Devin stands up beside you, and as you walk out the door, he asks, "So, wait, what did you want to--"
You cut him off, grabbing him by the arm and pulling him around the corner into a much less crowded hallway. For whatever reason, in fact, there's nobody there today at all. But then, you've never had a reason to use this particular hallway either, so you don't question it much.
"Geez, Jessica, what the hell?" Devin asks.
"Jessica nothing," you say in a hushed tone. "Dude, it's me, Eric."
"...This is the lamest prank ever and I'm not falling for it."
"Dev, I'm serious," you insist. "I don't know what happened, but we were on a date yesterday and then when we kissed goodbye, we swapped bodies."
"...This is the lamest prank ever and I'm not falling for it," Devin repeats.
"Come on, man, you don't trust me? We've known each other since we were like seven."
"Even if I did believe you're really Eric, that's all the more reason I shouldn't trust you."
"...Touche." It only occurs to you at this moment, but if you don't manage to convince Devin you're not messing with him, he'll probably bring it up to Jessica, and she might not necessarily want him to know her body is in your possession at the moment. But you can only think of one way to convince him you're not just messing with him, and you're not entirely sure you're all that keen on it...
