She was ordered to go outside first

As Melona walked to pour out her potion, however, she was stopped and asked to dispose of it outside, so that she wouldn't stink up the lab.

Disposing of potions, especially failed potions, was a tricky thing to do, as it was generally a bad idea to put unstable magic liquid where it could get in the water or harm any plantlife. However, it was found that slimes could be bred to be completely immune to magic effects, meaning that they could be fed potions without anything happening to them or the environment around them. One such slime lived in the Briar Academy's gardens, in a little pen just outside the potions lab. The students had named them "Goobert."

Goobert was fully capable of escaping their pen, as it was made of simple wood and twine, but while slimes were not particularly intelligent, they were able to recognize the fact that staying where they were meant free potions to eat and frequent pets and compliments from the student body. Melona held out the bucket to the creature, who hopped inside, happily slurping up the mixture. Melona set down the cauldron and popped down on the porch. Once it was done with it's feast, the monster poked it's head(?) out of the bucket, looking at the young witch expectantly. She giggled.

"Oh, Goobert..." Melona sighed, somewhat playfully, "We're not so different, you and I."

Goobert's large, yellow, slightly melty eyes stared at Melona. And then...
