This was ridiculous, Melona knew. People got dye jobs all the time, right? A lot of them looked worse than her (apparently) natural hair color did now. Sitting around the cafeteria looking like a wraith or a cultist had to give off a worse image than sitting around the cafeteria with a bad dye job. Honestly, she could probably just say that she was a natural blonde and dyed her hair brown for whatever reason. At this point, it was technically a half-truth. Either way, the worst that people could think is that she made a stupid request at the salon. If she kept her hood up, the worst thing that people could think was--well, it didn't bear thinking about. Probably something involving weeping virgins and winter solstices.
Mustering all of her willpower, Melona reached up to her hood and lowered it. Immediately, a sense of relief flowed through her, starting at her scalp and running down to her feet. It was strange, though. She half-expected to feel her hair grow even messier from being disturbed by her hood, but if anything the exact opposite happened; she could feel it flowing across her face and neck. It was as though her locks were attached directly to the muscles in her face, and that by relaxing her expression she was able to relax her hair. She looked over at a nearby window, trying to make out her appearance in the faint reflection. Sure enough, her hair had become less unruly, almost looking like a relatively-cute style she'd seen in a magazine once.
Melona looked back up to see if anyone was still staring at her or giving her strange looks.
