What's a self-help book doing in a magic library?

"Well, I'd certainly like a better me," said Melona as she paged through the book. She didn't have particularly high hopes. Her mother had given her enough self-help drivel to serve as kindling for a thousand fires. Books like 'How To Cast Spells and Charm People,' 'The Twelve-Day Potion Cleanse,' and 'Awaken the Giantess Within' tended to rely more on generic advice than actionable plans. When she realized that last one didn't have any information that'd make her thirty feet tall, she nearly threw it into a roaring fireplace. Maybe, though, this one would be different. She skipped the introduction and went to the first chapter, "The Magic of the Self."


What people don't understand is that being sentient and alive are magic in and of themselves. To get up, make decisions, and feel emotions is a power as immense as any fireball or enslavement curse. And, just like magic, your life can change the world or just sputter out.


Melona pursed her lips. Starting a book with a tortured metaphor was never a good sign. Still, she decided to soldier on.


Of course, most people don't feel that way. Being alive isn't magic to them. Only actual magic is magic to them. To them, I say, "Don't worry! We're getting to that." After all, it's not every day that you can use one form of magic to change another!


There was...so much wrong with that last statement, but at this point Melona was committed.


That's why chapters 10-18 will give you a crash course in all the magic that you'll need to give your self-improvement journey the extra boost it needs!


"That--" said Melona.

That was different. The only magic she'd seen in a self-help book before was a basic charm. Technically, the potion cleanse offered potions, but those had to be bought separately. This could actually be helpful, if only she could cast the magic.
