You decided that you'd had enough fun interfering with the track meet, so you sat back and watched Steph dominate. Throughout the rest of the events, she easily took first place in whatever she competed in, setting a world record breaking time in the process. A large crowd had gathered to watch her, and every time she ran she drew huge cheers from it. You couldn't blame them, since it's not every day you see an 11 foot tall 14 year old effortlessly shattering Olympic records. Of course, it was just a normal day for Steph, and she barely reacted to the crowd.
When the meet ended, Steph had easily taken first place in the 100, 200, 400 meter dashes and led her team in the 4x100 meter relay. When you met her in the parking lot, she looked as if she still hadn't broken a sweat. "Great job as always," you said, giving her a hug around her thighs.
"Thanks, Ellie," she replied, bending over to reach you. "It's so easy, though. I wish I wasn't limited to four events, 'cause I wanna do everything. When I go to the Olympics, I bet they'll let me do all the events I want." She paused for a second, "and I'm gonna win them all, too."
"I'm sure you will," you laughed. There was no doubt that the Olympics would end the same as this meet, but Steph would just have to wait until she was 16 before she could go.
As you came to the spot where you left your car, you were surprised to see that your little sedan had been replaced with a huge van. You guessed that since Steph was now too big to fit in a normal car, your family now had the van. Checking the keys in your pocket, you saw the van's lights flash, so your hunch was right. When you were about to open the driver's door, an idea came to you, inspired by Steph complaining about how easy her meet was. "Hey Steph," you said, turning to her. "I have an idea for a race that might actually give you a challenge. She merely raised an eyebrow. "We're going to race home, you on foot and me in the van. Sound like fun?"
It didn't take long for her to reply. "You're on," she said, narrowing her eyes in the way she always did during a real competition. "Because I'm nice and want to give you a fair chance, I'll wait until you leave the parking lot to start."
"I'll make you regret that," you warned her. Starting the van, you realized the race would be harder than you thought, since you had to adjust to driving the van during the drive home. You took it slow out of the parking lot to give yourself a little time to get used to the van. As you exited the van, you saw Steph dart off in the direction of your house, your paths quickly diverging as she strayed from the roads. For the first time, you felt glad that you lived a couple miles from the high school. Hopefully Steph would start to run out of energy as you drove along, then you could overtake her down the stretch. Although you wanted to beat Steph so that she could lose at least one race in her life, you weren't willing to risk speeding to do so, making your side of the race rather uneventful until you find out who arrives first.
You turned on to your street and saw no sign of Steph. You couldn't decide if you had just won an easy victory or if Steph had beaten you by a wide margin. Just as you were pulling in the driveway, you saw Steph's massive form sprint past you and tag the house. Steph was bent over and breathing heavily. "Tie goes to the runner," she said between breaths as you climbed out of the van.
"I'll give it to you this time," you said. "How many backyards did you run through?"
"Three," she answered with a smile before standing up to her full height. "Thanks to you, I actually broke a sweat today. I'm gonna go take a shower." She turned to go inside, you following. Entering your house is when you first realized that it, too, had changed as a result of Steph's growth. The ceilings were now at least 15 feet high to accommodate her height, and the doorways had been similarly increased. The house felt bigger, not just because it was taller, but with a lot more floor space too. It almost felt like you were visiting a giant's house. You guessed you were, in a sense.
In the living room, your other little sister Maddie was lying on an enormous couch watching tv. She bounced up when she saw you. "'Hi Eliie!" she greeted before launching into a game of twenty questions. "I saw Steph was all sweaty, did she lose at the meet? Was there a girl taller than her there? Ooh! Did she trip over one of the other girls? Did the girl she trip over die?"
You laughed at how hyper she became just at the sight of you. "Steph didn't lose, there wasn't a taller girl, and she didn't trip over anyone," you explained to her audible disappointment. Now it was your turn to ask the questions. "Where are Sam and Anne?"
"Sam went with some of her friends to the mall or something, and Anne is hanging out with her boyfriend," Maddie answered. "And since they finally decided I'm a 'big girl' now, they left me here alone, so I've just been watching tv."
"Any idea when they'll be back?"
"Nope," Maddie replied as she flopped on to her back. "You wanna stay and watch tv with me?"
"Of course," you said. This was another great opportunity to grow one of your sisters and see how the world changes this time.
