Skylar woke up bright and early, ready to take on the day. After getting out of bed, she dressed herself in a slightly oversized t-shirt, ripped skinny jeans, black converse sneakers, and a beanie covering her shoulder length brown hair. Finally, she grabbed her skateboard and began making her way to the local skate park.
Skylar was 12 and had been skating for maybe a year by now. She could ollie most of the time and land a kickflip some of the time, but she had fun even with all the bumps and bruises her wipeouts earned her. Above all, she loved the feeling of freedom she got from riding around town on her skateboard.
While she was riding down the sidewalk, Skylar thought about the weird dream she had last night. Being bigger than a house would be cool, but only if she had a skateboard big enough to match her. Then she could ollie over buildings. That would be the coolest thing ever. Unknown to her, while she was imagining herself a giantess like in her dream, she was slowly growing herself taller with her new power.
A few minutes later, Skylar arrived at her favorite skate park. This early in the morning, it was empty except for one person: Phoebe, Skylar's best friend since forever. The red-haired girl wasn't into skateboarding herself, but she had recently gotten into photography and watching Skylar skate was a great chance for her to practice. Today was looking like another great day for both girls to practice their hobbies.
The two girls hugged as they met. As they did, Skylar noticed that Phoebe seemed shorter than usual. Normally the two were the same height, but now Phoebe only came up to Skylar's eyes. As Phoebe was explaining her new camera, Skylar's mind wandered back to her dream. Like on the ride over, Skylar started getting taller, but this time she noticed the change. She could hardly believe her eyes as she watched the top of Phoebe's head go from level with her eyes, to her nose, to her chin, and finally to her shoulders. All the while, Phoebe kept on talking like nothing was wrong.
When Phoebe reached the end of her explanation, Skylar asked "Hey, do I look taller to you?"
Phoebe studied her friend for a second. "Maybe a little bit, but it's hard to tell since you're way taller than me," she declared. "I wish I could be tall," she added under her breath. That gave Skylar an idea. What if Phoebe was taller? She imagined her friend growing up to the same height, and Phoebe started growing just like Skylar had earlier. Skylar was so surprised to see her friend growing in front of her eyes that she overdid the growth, not stopping until Phoebe was a few inches taller than Skylar.
"Phoebe, how tall are you?" Skylar asked.
"Um, 5'6" I think," she answered as if it was completely normal. Skylar knew they were both about 4'6" when they woke up, so she had grown Phoebe about a foot and herself 9 inches. Stranger still, Phoebe didn't seem to know or care about the change even as she went from shorter than to noticeably taller than her friend mid-conversation. And both girls' clothes still fit perfectly. "Why do you ask?" Phoebe asked.
"No reason," Skylar answered. If Phoebe wasn't going to make a big deal out of growing, then Skylar wouldn't bring it up. "Anyways, ready to see me do some sick tricks?"
Phoebe grinned. "You bet. I'll go get set up over there. Hopefully we'll get some great shots today!" She walked over to the edge of the park while Skylar started skating.
Skylar zoned out as she skated, moving more on autopilot than by conscious thought. After landing a particularly tough kickflip over a big gap, Skylar turned to see if Phoebe caught a picture of it. She probably didn't, because Phoebe was being bothered by a couple teenage boys who had arrived while Skylar was skating. Phoebe looked uncomfortable and Skylar saw a perfect opportunity to use her new power to chase the boys off.
