Chapter #6

Josh helps Kira

    by: Morphology Author IconMail Icon
Surprised by the strength that Kira had, Josh had no choice but to follow her. Even though he'd been in Kira's room several times through the years, however this time was different. Walking in with Courtney's skinny jeans and pink cardigan, Josh felt out of place and self conscious. Pulling down the sweater a little more to cover his butt, Josh made his way over to wear Kira was sitting on the bed and sat down next to her. Letting a long, drawn out sigh, Josh tried to see what she was working on. "What did you need help with." He asked while fixing a stray piece of hair that had somehow escaped the headband that he was wearing.

Holding up the small laptop that the school provided her to do school work, Kira pointed to the history section. "I need some help with this part. You've been pretty good with all of your classes and I called you over here to help me out." Putting down the computer, Kira looked at Josh like he was growing another head. "Are you okay, Courtney?"

Doing his best to brush it off as nothing, Josh playfully nudged her. "Yeah, I guess you can say that I'm not feeling like myself." Taking a look at the computer, Josh turned to look at Kira. "Okay, so tell me what you know about the American Civil War." He did his best to imitate Courtney's determined look that he'd seen many times over the years.

"Umm... Slavery?" Kira asked hoping that was all.

Nodding his head, Josh held up his hand. "There were multiple causes that ultimately led to the war. Policy and Economic changes, the reach of the Federal Government on state's rights, and Cultural values were all major factors." Seeing that he'd lost Kira, Josh got up and made his way over to her dresser and looked for something to help, but found nothing. However, Josh saw his sister's reflection staring back at him. He spent the next half hour helping her with the questions that she had and did his best to coach her in giving the answers.

Feeling something vibrating in his back pocket, Josh instinctively grabbed it. Pulling it out, he noticed that it was from his Mom. "Looks like I got to get going." He announced but turned back towards Kira. "But are you clear with the history assignment?"

Smiling, Kira nodded her head. "Yeah, as always, you helped walk me through it without giving me the answer." Feeling a sense of pride, Josh got up and made his way back over to Jenn's room to get his sister to go home.

Opening the door, Josh found them on the bed looking at the book and discussing what to do next. "No you can't do that." Courtney scolded Jenn. "If you don't know what it does whats the point in trying it out. I mean that's what got us in this predicament." Getting up off of the bed, she saw that Josh had entered the room. Seeing him dressed in her clothes and having her long hair, brought a smile to her face. "Hey squirt." She told him using Josh's nickname for Courtney.

Rolling his eyes towards the back of his head, Josh pulled out Courtney's phone. "Mom says that we need to get home." Bringing his gaze over to Jenn, he gestured towards the book. "So how long do you think we're going to be stuck like this?" He asked while motioning towards his body.

Looking back down towards the book, Jenn started to shake her head. "I don't know. Sorry." She apologized while looking back at him. "I can try another incantation, but like Courtney pointed out just a moment ago, I don't know what it will do or how it will affect the two of you."

Taking a moment to think it over, Josh nodded his head. "I think that's for the best too." He acknowledged. "Well keep on it and I'll come back by tomorrow to see how you're doing with reversing this." He told her but then brought his eyes towards Courtney, who like him, looked ridiculous wearing each other's clothing. "Are you ready to go?" He asked.

"Yeah." She announced as she brought her hands down to her pockets and felt Josh's car keys. "Wait, does this mean I get to drive your car?" She asked as she made her way towards the bedroom door.

"No." Josh told her to quickly put that idea to bed. "I may be stuck in your life for the moment, but I'm not going to let you drive my car." He held out his hand to his sister. As she grew closer, the height difference quickly made itself evidently clear as Josh looked up to his sister for the first time. "Keys please."

Trying her best to do a puppy dog face in a vain attempt to get her way, which looked absolutely hilarious with her having Josh's hair and clothes, Courtney dug into her pockets to pull out the keys and give them to her brother. "Awe, I've got a license too, you know."

Taking the keys, the two mixed up siblings stared to make their way down the stairs. Waving good bye to the Marshall household, Josh and Courtney got into the car. As Josh sat in the driver's seat, he found, thanks to Courtney's height that he had to move the seat up. Feeling a little agitated with the whole situation, he started the car and they made their way home. He was certainly glad that he still had his driving skills, but didn't like seeing his sister's reflection every time that he looked into the mirror. Feeling the silence was starting to be a little awkward, Josh looked over at Courtney, who was looking through her new phone. "So what did you and Jenn talk about while I was helping Kira?"

Not looking up from the phone, Courtney answered. "I just scolded her for making such a rash decision without truly knowing the outcome. From what she was telling me about the incantation that she used, one of us could have been flung somewhere throughout the world into a random life without much help." Hearing this, Josh couldn't help but shudder at the proverbial bullet that he managed to dodge. "But she thinks that she found something that looks promising. However when she showed me to acknowledge what it said, I couldn't read it so she is going to do some more research about it."

Soon the two of them pulled into the drive way and Josh got out of the car to see their Mom standing in the doorway with a smile plastered on her face. As they got closer to the door, she embraced Courtney. "Thank you for letting your sister drive your car." Not really knowing what was going on, Courtney pulled away. "I know how much that car means to you and how you don't want your sister to drive it, but thanks for giving her the chance."

"Uh, sure." Courtney simply said as she made her way inside.
