Ethan stood in front of his bedroom mirror, adjusting the collar of his new suit. The tailored outfit was meant to accommodate his recent growth spurt, though he couldn't shake the feeling of being a giant in human clothing. He took a deep breath, hoping tonight would bring some semblance of normalcy.
He had planned this date with Emily weeks ago, before his life had taken such an unexpected turn. Emily was sweet and kind, and Ethan hoped to impress her despite his current predicament. As he headed to the restaurant, he couldn't help but feel a twinge of anxiety.
The restaurant was a cozy, upscale place with dim lighting and a warm ambiance. Ethan arrived first, his head nearly brushing the doorframe. He found their reserved table and carefully seated himself, feeling the chair groan slightly under his weight.
A few minutes later, Emily walked in, her face lighting up when she saw him. "Ethan! You look... amazing," she said, her eyes widening as she took in his towering figure.
Ethan smiled, though his heart raced. "Thanks, Emily. You look beautiful."
They settled into their conversation, and for a while, Ethan felt almost normal. The food arrived, and they laughed and talked, the awkwardness of his height fading into the background.
Unbeknownst to them, Luna and the trio of girls had entered the restaurant. They found a secluded corner where they could watch Ethan unnoticed. Luna's eyes gleamed with a mix of curiosity and mischief, while Sophia, Ava, and Olivia observed in silence, their expressions unreadable.
Halfway through the meal, Ethan felt the now-familiar sensation of pressure building within him. He gripped the edge of the table, his knuckles white. "Not now," he whispered under his breath, but the growth was inevitable.
Emily's eyes widened in shock as Ethan's body began to stretch. His suit strained against his expanding frame, seams popping and fabric tearing. His dress shoes split open, unable to contain his enlarging feet. Within moments, he had grown another sixteen inches.
The restaurant fell silent as patrons turned to stare. Ethan's head now brushed the ceiling, and he had to drop to his knees to avoid bursting through it. His torn clothes hung in shreds, barely clinging to his massive frame.
Emily's initial shock gave way to concern. "Ethan, are you okay?"
He nodded, though his face was flushed with embarrassment. "I... I don't know what's happening to me."
From their corner, Luna and the girls watched the scene unfold. Luna's expression was one of satisfaction, while the others seemed torn between pity and vindication.
Ethan's mind raced. He had to get out of there before he caused more damage. He struggled to stand, knocking over the table in the process. Emily tried to help, but it was clear he was beyond assistance.
Finally, Luna approached, her presence commanding the room. "I think it's time we left," she said, her voice carrying an eerie calm.
Ethan, too bewildered to argue, nodded. He gave Emily an apologetic look. "I'm sorry, Emily. I have to go."
Emily watched in stunned silence as Ethan and Luna left the restaurant, followed closely by Sophia, Ava, and Olivia. Outside, the cool night air did little to soothe Ethan's nerves.
"What do you want from me?" Ethan demanded, turning to Luna.
Luna's eyes sparkled with a secret she was not yet ready to reveal. "All in due time, Ethan. For now, just know that you're part of something much bigger than you realize."
Ethan's heart sank as Luna and the girls walked away, leaving him to grapple with his extraordinary and terrifying transformation. He looked down at his shredded clothes and oversized limbs, feeling more isolated than ever.
As he made his way home, Ethan couldn't help but wonder what his future held. One thing was certain: his life was irrevocably changed, and the mystery surrounding his sudden growth was far from solved.
