Florian was sitting at his desk, reading Naranja Academy's pamphlet. He'd read it what must have been a hundred times in just the last week. He was so excited to be going that he put on the Naranja uniform as soon as he got up. Opening to read it for the third time today, he stopped when the doorbell rang.
Grabbing his bag, he all but ran downstairs. He saw an elderly man wearing an orange jacket and six Premier Balls. He seemed to be discussing something with Florian's mother. At least, he was before he noticed him by the stairs.
"Ah, you must be Master Florian." He spoke in a polite tone. "On behalf of the academy, I must apologize for the late arrival of your acceptance letter." He reached into his jacket and pulled out said letter, handing it to Florian.
Florian read it and found that it was, in fact, his acceptance letter. He was so excited to be applying that he forgot entirely that the letter never came.
"Thank you, Mister...?"
"Ah, yes. Allow me to introduce myself." He straightened up and put his hands behind his back. "I am the director of Naranja Academy. You may call me Mr. Clavell."
That seemed to get the mother's attention.
"The director?!" She practically shouted. "And you came in person to help my son on his first day?"
"Well, I am responsible responsible for the entire academy. Including any failures on its part. Speaking of, would you care to join me outside for a moment?" He turned and left without another word.
Florian became more confused now. What exactly was going to happen? Regardless, he joined Director Clavell outside.
The director stood facing him with three pokéballs in his left hand.
"While students normally get their starter upon their first day, I wish to extend my apologies by allowing you to choose now." He then released them and introduced the starters.
"I must leave now to speak to another student. When you have chosen, I would appreciate it if you came to me. Her house is at the end of the street, you should find it hard to miss."
As he left, Florian looked in the direction he was going and saw, what could only be described as a mansion.
The starters then distracted him by running up to him. They were all begging for his attention. It was hard to choose.
Before he left, his mother gave him his Rotom phone and a pokéflute that she said belonged to his dad.
As he made his way to the 'house,' the starters kept running around. When he got close, however, they suddenly ran in.
Quaxly made his way to the fountain, Sprigatito was in the flower bed, and Fuecoco started chewing on a piece of fruit. Feeding Fuecoco was a woman in the Academy uniform with her black hair in a ponytail. She noticed Florian and walked towards him with a smile.
"Are you these three's Trainer?" She asked
Before he could answer, Clavell walked up behind her.
"Not quite. He has yet to officially make his decision, after all."
"Well, he must be lucky to choose." Florian turned to see the person speaking was another girl in uniform.
The two introduced themselves as Nemona and Juliana. He, in turn, explained the circumstances as to why he was choosing so soon.
"Oh, so you must be the knew neighbour that moved in." Nemona stated before turning to the director. "Oh, if you'd allow, I'd like Juliana to be allowed to choose as well. She's a skilled trainer."
He just nodded. "Very well. First Florian will choose, then Juliana, and then you. Is that acceptable?"
They all agreed, so Florian finally was forced to pick one.
