He grabbed his gear and headed downstairs. His mom, a petite woman with kind eyes, was waiting.
"Frank, you will do fine today. I know you will". Frank's mother hugged him.
"I hope so. I've been working hard on this". Frank's mother smiled, "Regardless, we are all proud of you"
Frank nodded as he entered the car. His mother waived at him as he drove away. He was going to be taking an exam to enter a program that would guarantee a spot for medical school from college and beyond if he passed this exam. It wouldn't be easy, but it would make his dream of joining the family trade a reality. Frank had time to spare in the morning before the exam in the afternoon. He headed to his local coffee shop to help energize him for the coming exam.
Frank entered the shop and placed his order. The smells of the shop relaxed him. He looked over and saw Bob Chesser sitting at one of the lounge chairs reading a book. Big burly man with a nice pot belly on his hips pushing aside his legs to accommodate its girth. He was also tall and had a large beard on him and a genial face. He was always a second mentor you could count on.
You walked to Bob and smiled as he looked up to see you, "Hey Frank, my boy! You taking the exam today?"
You nodded as you shook his hand, "Yeah, but definitely nervous"
Bob laughed. A laugh that always filled you with warmth, "How so? You got the medicine gene in you"
"Yeah, but it seems to be a delayed charge Bob. Too much pressure", you said truthfully. If you didn't pass, you would feel like a failure. Bob smiled with a hidden wink of sorts as he stood up and maneuvered his large bulk to you. He placed a hand on you and a huge warmth shot through you. It felt incredible and peaceful. Bob smiled, "You will do wonderful kid! I know you will". You shook Bob's hand and smiled, "Thanks Bob> I gotta go. But we'll talk later"
You drove to your school and drank your coffee and small meal while you entered the exam hall. You felt oddly at peace and full of energy. You went to your computer and began answering the questions prompted. You felt that you were oddly confident in your answers and enjoying the exam. After 5 hours, you were all done. You went to the proctor and handed your equipment back.
"Okay then, you'll know your results in a few days". You headed home.
