It's only been five minutes aboard Ellie's shoe, and you're already feeling sick. As you try to make your way to the safety atop the shoe, you pick up bits and pieces of the muddled conversations above.
"Ellie!" Dina yelps with a painful mixture of excitement and despair. You're okay! Thank God. Jessie, he... He's gone. "
Ellie pulls her into a tight hug and buries her nose into Dina's neck. "I'm so fucking sorry Dina. I didn't mean for any of this- Oh shit, Tommy!" Ellie scrambles to Tommy's side, blood trickles slowly from the side of his head. Bending over, Ellie lowers her head to his chest. "He's alive! Christ if that bullet was an inch closer..." Dina walks over and places her hand on Ellie's back, rubbing gentle circles into her tight shoulders. "Ellie... Where's Abby?"
Ellie doesn't answer, her eyes locked on Tommy's injuries, tears brimming from the corner of her eyes. "S-she's gone, disappeared somewhere."
"Fuck! That kid she was with did too, ran out of arrows and booked it outside like a fucking coward. Shit Ellie they're gonna come back! How could you let her get away!?"
The last remark made Ellie wince. Despite the intense rage still wrestling inside her, Dina's anger was strangely relieving.
"You're right, I'll go take a look around. Dina... I'm sorry"
Walking back through the theatre doors, Ellie collapsed on one of the chairs and held her head in her arms, trying to fight back the onslaught of ugly tears waiting to escape. Shifting to her sight, Ellie brought her feet up to the chair next to her and stared distantly at her shoes, studying the splatters of dried blood, the wear and tear of the fabric, and a strange-looking bug crawling around by her toes...
You had managed to climb the small ledge marking the toe-end of the shoe when Ellie started moving again. You felt a sense of smug pride knowing Lev escaped but also that Ellie's was falling apart before your eyes. You sneer at the god-like figure above. "Serves you right bitch!"
There was a small pinging in the back of your mind though, a weird feeling of pity toward her, and even more so, a sense of empathy. You were practically equal now in all but size. Your boiling sense of vengeance had come down to a simmer. Sitting on the white end of the shoe, you look up at Ellie sitting above you, head in her hands and sniffling silently. Suddenly, the shoe you're on lifts into the air and is brought back down on another chair as Ellie adjusts herself.
Looking back at her eyes, you shudder to find them looking right at you!? Though she didn't seem angry at all, almost playful if anything. Maybe she thought you were a bug? Then again, the fact that she was seeing you was a damn miracle!
The ground below you suddenly quakes and churns as Ellie's toes wiggle inside the shoe. Your body jostles around from side to side and you gauge that you're somewhere between her big and second toe; both the size of mountains. You watch as a slight smile comes over Ellie's lips, she seems to be enjoying watching you lose your balance over her toes. Before long, Ellie's curious finger slowly lowers down to you, and her pointer finger extends in front of you, beckoning you to climb on.
With no real choice on the matter, you reluctantly oblige and clammer onto her dirty fingernail and up onto her skin. The grooves of Ellie's fingerprint are surprisingly deep at your size and as you climb, you find that you can almost fit your entire fist between them. The finger lifts back into the air much quicker than when it descended, the g-forces throwing you back into her flesh. The alien texture feels slightly moist and you can just barely make out the microscopic sweat glands lining the fingertip.
Ellie's giant, emerald eye gazes at you with wonder. You can't let her recognize you, so you quickly turn your back to her, hiding your face against her finger. You wonder how long she's going to marvel at you before she gets bored but your thoughts are cut off by the painful feeling of something massive being thrust into your back.
It's hard to hold steady and whatever it is, it's wide and relatively thin. You take a peak from over your shoulder and see Ellie's other hand behind you, the culprit behind your assault was Ellie's curious fingernail, poking and prodding into you. The fingernail drifts lower with each poke and eventually, it settles on poking your ass in particular. With every concentrated jab, you feel less and less certain she thinks you're a bug. Before things get too painful, you flip over and show the oceanic pupil your face.
"The hell? Why do you look like a person?" The finger gravitates even closer to her eye, to the point where you could just jump onto it if you wanted to. Then, you notice the skin around the corners of her eyes wrinkle and fold like she had smelled something foul.
"Abby..."
There was no outrage or horror behind her words; it was just a plain statement as if she was almost disappointed. But there was no time to guess what was going inside her head, she had by some miracle recognized you and more likely than not, was going to kill you. In the brief moment before chaos ensues, your mind races on what to do: You could stay here and hope she doesn't crush you outright, or you could escape this evil goddess and hide! You only have two exits, to jump backward onto Ellie's lower body, or to do the unthinkable and jump straight into her massive eye...
