Monster Template Example

Monster Template Example

The following is an example of a basic monster template with no additions, and an example of some of the options you can use to change the monster. Let's start simple. A slime.

Here is a template before any of the free points are spent. Everything in (parenthesis) are comments and aren't required in when you show your monster's stats when making a template. They are comments to make it a little easier to understand what you're looking at here. Remember: Discounts, other than for stats specifically stated to affect he overall cost, are based on the original cost of the monster. In our case, with a Slime, that's 100. So a 20% discount is 20 DP off the final price even if the slime costs 300 to create.

Slime
Gender: N/A (Slimes are genderless, though can change shape to mimic either or both if given the required skill)
Rank: Common (changes depending on variant. This is just a normal slime, so it's not too impressive.)
Size: 100% (Most slimes are only a foot or two tall, they're relatively small. Try to keep heights somewhat in-line with their base species. A mouse based monster will be bigger than a mouse, in general, maybe a foot or so, but shouldn't be massive unless you spend a lot of DP on its size, while a dragon is likely to be rather large unless you decrease its size.)
Health: 0/0 (You get 10 Health per stat point assigned.)
MP: 0/0 (You get 10 MP per stat point assigned.)
Attack: 0
Defense: 0
Agility: 0
Intelligence: 0
Mini-Boss: No
Boss: No
Wandering Boss: No
Unique: No
Tame-able: No
Humanoid: No
Sentient: No
Speech: No
Skills: Amorphism (Skill chosen from the base skill list, which can include author chosen skills, but must be relatively weak to qualify for a first, free skill.)
Weaknesses: None
Free Points: 50
Current Cost: 100 DP
Current Multiplier: 1.0

As you can see, the 5% discount towards other stats when one is at 0 doesn't apply to the overall cost, so a Slime, even with 0 in all it's stats, still costs 100 DP. Now, let's do a little customization, shall we?

Slime
Gender: N/A
Rank: Common
Size: 100%
Health: 100/100 (Assigned 10 points.)
MP: 100/100 (Assigned 10 points.)
Attack: 5
Defense: 5
Agility: 5
Intelligence: 5
Mini-Boss: No
Boss: No
Wandering Boss: No
Unique: No
Tame-able: No
Humanoid: No
Sentient: No
Speech: No
Skills: Amorphism
Weaknesses: None
Free Points: 10
Current Cost: 100 DP
Current Multiplier: 1.0

There we go. That's looking better. As you can see, I still have Free Points I can spend, which means I'm in control of where the points go. No two monsters have to be exactly the same, unless they were spawned off of a template. Let's use the rest of the points and see how some of the other options affect the price.

Slime
Gender: N/A
Rank: Common
Size: 100%
Health: 100/100
MP: 100/100
Attack: 6
Defense: 8
Agility: 10
Intelligence: 6
Mini-Boss: No
Boss: No
Wandering Boss: No
Unique: Yes (-20% cost)
Tame-able: Yes (-20% cost)
Humanoid: Yes (+50% cost)
Sentient: Yes (+10% cost)
Speech: Yes (+100 cost)
Skills: Amorphism
Weaknesses: None
Free Points: 0
Current Cost: 240 DP (100+100 = 200, 200x1.2=240)
Current Multiplier: 1.2 (1-.2-.2+.5+.1=1.2)

Oh, wow! Over double! That's too much for me, as I'm using the Normal difficulty setting, meaning I only have 100 DP to spend.

I'd have to wait 24 days without monsters to defend myself if I wanted that, since I'm making 10 DP per day. I need to decrease the cost.

Slime
Gender: N/A
Rank: Common
Size: 80% (20 DP off so I now, sort of, have 120 to spend)
Health: 100/100
MP: 100/100
Attack: 6
Defense: 8
Agility: 10
Intelligence: 6
Mini-Boss: No
Boss: No
Wandering Boss: No
Unique: Yes (-20% cost)
Tame-able: Yes (-20% cost)
Humanoid: Yes (+50% cost)
Sentient: Yes (+10% cost)
Speech: Yes (+100 cost)
Skills: Amorphism
Weaknesses: Magic, Core, (-80% total. The Magic weakness makes it weak to all types of magic, which is a "general" weakness, so I get 60% off, while the Core weakness gives it an obvious core that can be hit for extra damage, giving me another 20% off)
Free Points: 0
Current Cost: 72 DP (100+100-20 = 180, 180x0.4=72)
Current Multiplier: 0.4 (1-.2-.2+.5+.1-.6-.2=0.4)

There we go! A slightly smaller slime that I can only make one of, is tame-able, humanoid, sentient, and capable of speech! And with the 20 DP off I got from the size decrease I have more than the required DP! I can, unfortunately, only make one, since it's Unique. Making the same slime, but not unique would increase the cost to 108 DP. I can't quite do that. Unfortunate, especially such a basic monster. So, now I can summon it as is, or remove some of the things increasing it's cost. I could also make it smaller. But I think I'll just remove Speech for now which drops it's base cost by 100 DP so it's down to 48 without being unique. Ok, and summon! Oh! And now I've locked the template and can summon copies of this slime for 10% of the original cost (rounded up), or 5 DP each, meaning I can make 5 more right now!

Conclusion
And that is how you make a template. I went through all the steps aside from adding more skills, but I'll be making an example list of skills that could count as a starting skill for a monster in another chapter. I hope this helps you keep things consistent. I know I'm asking a lot to have you read and remember all of this, and I appreciate it if you do. You can make any monster you want as long as you follow these guidelines. Have fun making your fetish material. Kidding...or am I? OoOoOoOoO~.
