Chapter #4Kickstarter Vs. The Glacier by: Unknown The rabbit bouncing in the ring had been waiting forever for this match. He had been working in house shows for a few years now, building up his fan base and paying his dues. One particularly raucous house show a few months ago impressed a talent scout enough to give him the shot at the big time he'd always wanted. It wasn't expected he would win, of course. He was too new, too raw for that. It would be embarrassing for one of the most established stars to lose to someone no one had ever seen before, after all. Still, it was a tremendous opportunity. The rabbit known as Kickstarter might be losing more matches than he wins for a year or so, but the point wasn't necessarily to win. It was to lose impressively enough that people still rooted for him. Besides, he had a trick or two up his sleeve that would make for a few surprises.
He bounced again, shaking his hands and rolling his shoulders. He was an impressive specimen of rabbit -- his brown fur was sleek and shined, both of his ears were long and perked. His spaded tail flickered through a hole in his wrestling trunks, and his paws were huge and strong. He wore a pair of black spandex pants that hugged his muscular legs, and the golden lightning bolt that lined the outsides of them only accentuated how long they really were. It was a simple look, but it had worked for him so far. He knew he was catching the eyes of the ladies in the audience, and likely a few of the men.
The referee, a gruff looking Yorkshire terrier who couldn't have been taller than five feet, stood in the middle of the ring. He held the microphone, looked out at the crowd, and opened his mouth for the announcements. His voice was gravelly, but it had a surprising boom to it.
"Ladies and gentlefurs, in this corner....standing at a height of six feet three inches tall, weighing in at 225 pounds...Kickstarter!"
There was a polite pop of applause for the stranger, but Kickstarter didn't mind. He sprung from his corner and promptly flipped, then cartwheeled, then leapt into a full tuck and spin in the air. His ears brushed the canvas with the last maneuver, and he stuck the landing right in front of the turnbuckle catty-corner from the one he started in. He raised his hands, then gave the crowd a wink and a flex. It might have been his imagination, but he could have sworn he heard the crowd cheer a little louder as his biceps peaked. They were warming to him already.
"And approaching the ring...standing at a towering nine feet and seven inches tall, and weighing in at 1,225 pounds...The Glacier!"
Kickstarter's eyes widened right before the lights went down. Did he just hear the announcer correctly? Laser lights and music came up, flashing around the arena before centering on the entrance. The music for this guy could barely be heard over the roar of the crowd. The rabbit could see flashes of the mob in the audience. They were on their feet, cheering and shouting. His ears folded for a moment. The Glacier was clearly *very* popular.
He followed the lights to the entrance, and filling it entirely was the biggest polar bear he had ever seen. He wore a unitard that stretched around a monstrously barreled torso. His chest, shoulders and back were so bullishly muscled it looked like the spandex was stretched to its breaking point. His stomach was fairly rounded, and a lot of the definition was muted by a layer of fat and fur that only served to make the ursine appear even more impenetrable. He looked around at the crowd, held up arms the size of tree trunks and roared. The sound drowned out everything else -- the music, the crowd, and the beating in Kickstarter's own heart.
The bear then lumbered down the ramp onto the arena floor. His legs were bear and so were his paws. They slammed against the metal grating, and Kickstarter watched them shiver from the impact of all that weight. Even the concrete seemed to tremble when he got to the floor outside the ring. Standing on the apron, the bear's eyes looked over the top rope easily.
The Glacier grinned as he jumped from the apron, over the ropes and into the ring. He landed with a tremendous slam that forced Kickstarter to stumble back into his turnbuckle. The referee was thrown onto his rump, and used the opportunity to roll out of the ring. Kickstarter was beginning to think that the terrier had the right idea. The enormous bear thumped to the center of the ring, looming over the rabbit even there, and put his paws on his hips. His shoulders were so broad his head seemed to disappear right into them. Maybe he stopped where he did because he would lose his opponent under his pecs if he got any closer.
"Oh, look. It's little bunny." The Glacier rumbled in a thick Russian accent as the lights came up. "It will be fun to break you like twig."
Kickstarter forced his ears to come up as he stared defiantly up at the bear. The Glacier had crisp, sharp blue eyes that would have been attractive on anyone else. On him, it was just terrifying.
"You're going to have to catch me first, you big lummox." The rabbit began to bounce on his long paws, preparing himself for the work ahead.
It was all but certain he would lose. But by Frith he was going to put on a show. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
