You lead the man into the back, to a strongbox that holds all of the money that's been taken in during the past 3 days. I have to buy more time....
"Now where did I put that key? I know it was around here somewhere..." you mutter, putting on a big show of "searching" for the key. After a few seconds, the man gets impatient.
"You're just trying to stall me until the cops get here, aren't you?! You probably pushed some sort of silent alarm, and now you're just wasting time, right?!" he shouts angrily.
"No... no, that's not what I'm doing!" you stammer.
"Oh, I think it is. Say goodnight, girl!"
The man points the gun at your forehead and squeezes the trigger. You shut your eyes.
BLAM!
CLANG!
Your head snaps back with the impact, but you don't feel any pain. That's odd... it doesn't hurt at all.
"What the...?"
You open your eyes and see the man stumbling backwards, away from you. He aims the gun again and squeezes off two rounds.
BLAM!
BLAM!
Tink!
Pa-ching!
You stagger back a step and thrust your arms in front of you. He shot me... but it didn't even hurt! you marvel.
"Aaaah! Get away from me, you freak!"
The man turns and sprints away from you. He bumps into a stack of pop bottles, knocks over a magazine rack, and finally smacks his head on one of the metal shelves. He collapses on the ground, knocked out cold.
You run to the man and shake him, trying to see if he's okay. Suddenly, you notice something odd about your outstretched arm. It almost looks like... metal?
You stand up straight and look down at your body... and see that it's turned into solid metal!
"Aaah!" you scream, and notice that even your voice has a slight metallic ring to it.
"What's happened to me? How do I undo it?"
Even as you ask, your body changes back to normal. Can I change into metal just by trying? you wonder.
You test out your theory, changing back and forth. Metal. Normal. Metal. Normal.
"Ha ha! Sweet!" you exclaim.
"What's sweet?"
You spin around and see that the cops are here.
"Holy crow!"
One of the cops spots the thug on the ground. He walks over and examines him more closely, then looks up at you.
"What happened?"
You tell him how the man tried to rob you, but then got impatient, panicked, and ended up knocking himself out.
The cops handcuff the thief and toss him into the back of their car, then drive off. You clean up the store, lock it up for the night, and get into your car.
Maybe I should go somewhere quiet and clear my head....
