An eternity seems to pass before all movement stops. From the treads, you can feel shuffling about inside the shoe. Finally! They've stopped! The weight upon you suddenly feels lighter as your shoe falls to the side, letting you get your first gasps of air.
And they're none too pleasant, as you realize the shifting and weightlessness you felt was Davis taking his shoes off from the day's journeying. You squirm, hard. The mud is pretty caked in, but you eventually manage to break out of your prison and plop out onto the grass, right next to Davis' sweaty socked feet. Ugh, the stench!
Make your choice. You went with Davis, stick with him.
