Chapter 4: Tre Connor

I watched the man named Tarynn leave, stumbling through the mud and heavy rain, unaware of my presence. The woman was fine, but not my interest. The panging pain was intensifying, driving through my body in red hot needles. Time to go.
I had come here for HER, the woman sat cross-legged at the side of the road, her skin pale and her gauzy white dress soaked. Or it should have been, but instead it was dry as a bone, same as her black curls. She smiled at me as she gazed up, her eyes maddened and fangs glistening.
"Mariasha," I said as a statement. She giggled in mirth.
"You've come to feed me boy? But of course they never do!" she cackled, her voice harsh on the ears. I took a step back, from wisdom more than fear.
"You broke our treaty. The vamps are becoming feral, only you can do such a thing," I said, watching her closely. She could spring at me any second. In fact, I counted on it.
"Ah, hunter. The unclean one comes to bargain. Not this time young one, I tire of order, the night screams for chaos and so I give. The wolves bay for blood so do not deign to lecture me," she glanced up at me, her eyes hostile and lips drawn back.
"Apologies Mariasha, no insult was intended. I mean no harm to you or your kin," I reply, smiling and attempting to placate the old hag. I was merely waiting for the moment.
"Foolish Tre Connor, did you forget of the moon? My teeth shall rip you to shreds, you of dead blood will scream for mercy and none will be had!"
She roared, as inhuman and frenzied as ever I had heard. Yet, her body was spasming, hair shooting up and muzzle elongating. I'd have to be quick, but that was no problem for me. Unsheathing the hidden sword on my back, I slashed at her neck, sawing through the skin and tendons until I gripped it in hand. Taking a lighter from my pocket, I burnt both the head and the half mutated body. I had just declared a war that I could never win.
My brother would kill me.
