Resting in Pieces
by: Unknown
Her smile shattered instantly at the sight. Below, beneath the toes of her double-sized shoes, her precious production rested cracked and broken in several pitiful pieces. Lacy bent down, her posterior pressing against the wall behind, her thighs squeezing against a heavy table on either side, and quietly spoke a simple, "Oh, no. Oh, no."
A fragment of her momentarily glorious device reflected a final glare of light then became dull in Lacy's somber shadow. Her fingers, large, clumsy, tried to pick up the broken bits but blundered, damaging them more against the unforgiving tile. Lacy drew a quiet breath, staring at her crushed creation, her disintegrated dreams.
She forced herself to stand tall, only resulting in another hard bump to her head. She did her best to laugh it off, "Okay Lacy, have to be more careful now that you're a skyscraper. Looks like you're going to be this way for a while." She toured the room with her eyes, "Everything feels so small now."
Lacy took cautious steps to the far end of the room and back again several times in contemplation, but as her thoughts wandered, so did her feet. Glass instruments crashed to the floor. Metal racks were toppled to their doom. The very walls seems to shake as she approached. Finally, the cacophonous catastrophes of her missteps spurs her to shout, "I have to get out here!"
