The Killer Instinct tournament.
Held by the Ultratech Corporation, it was there sick way of gathering resources and gaining fame via violent, gory battles with everything from human warriors to aliens to robots to their own monstrous creations. One of their greatest creations was a crossbreed human/reptile named Riptor. A vicious, vile creature that ate several opponents, sometimes swallowing them whole in his ravenous hunger.
Riptor was defeated and killed by the cybernetically enhanced boxer known as TJ Combo.
But unbeknownst to anyone, there was another Riptor, one stronger and more powerful than the first. This one remained in the dungeons of the Ultratech building, kept locked up because he was more intelligent than his predecessor. He could not speak, but he could reason, and understand human language, and even solve simple puzzles.
Ultratech kept him alive because he was a curiosity. They fed him dead fighters as well as other meats, and promised him that once they could arrange it, they would give him a mate, one that would bear children for him.
This was fine with this Riptor, although he was a little jealous of the first one, who got to fight and eat living opponents whole. As he watched his predecessor on the television they provided for him, he wondered what it was like to feel living prey inside his belly.
Then, his predecessor was killed by TJ Combo.
He became concerned then. No one had come yet to feed him today, and he wondered if Ultratech was going back on their word. He decided to wait and see, and continued watching the tournament.
When Orchid defeated and killed the monstrous Eyedol, knocking him into a pit of lava, everything changed. To the surviving Riptor, it felt as if the universe itself shifted, but in reality it was time itself. The Ultratech building was being dragged bodily into the past, along with all the Killer Instinct fighters and Ultratech staff inside of it. The echoing of a powerful demon's laughter thundered through the building as Riptor struggled to stay standing through the violent shaking of the building.
Finally, the building stopped shaking. It was cracked in several places, letting light into Riptor's underground lair. The building walls creaked ominously, and Riptor guessed that the place was on the verge of collapsing. He debated briefly what to do, when something caught his eye.
HIS GATE WAS OPEN.
He quickly ran out just as the roof of his lair collapsed. Not stopping to look back, he quickly made his way out, killing whoever got in his way with blasts of fire and slashes with his tail or claws.
Finally, he found a doorway leading out. The rich scents of plant and animal life in this area reached his nostrils, and he realized that something had happened, since he couldn't smell anything urban save for the building. Unknowingly, he had gone back in time.
But Riptor didn't care. He was free.
Free to hunt for the first time in his life.
