Rico climbed out of the pile of his own clothing, fallen in a heap on the tile floor. He shivered in the cold air and stared across the room, to the other side of the towering table, and saw David making his own way down from a hill of clothing.
He sprinted across the floor and arrived near the mound of David's clothing about the same time his partner's tiny bare feet touched down on the cold floor tiles.
They spoke at the same time, both completely at a loss and desperately baffled by their situation.
Rico, finally, took charge. "Be quiet," the smaller man said, firmly but not rudely. "Let me think."
David, by now, noticed both his and Rico's nudity.
"What the hell just happened?" Rico asked. He didn't exactly direct his question toward the elder Fisher brother, but David started to reply just the same.
"We've shrunk!" David said. He lifted his head and stared at the building-sized cabinets and tables.
Rico slowly shook his head. "That's impossible."
David, fully aware that it must be possible, had already moved on. "How small do you think we are?"
Rico still looked very distressed. "How could this happen?"
"We're probably only about seven or eight inches tall," David said.
He looked down at Rico. "Well, I am probably eight inches. I'd guess you're maybe a little over seven inches tall."
The fact, said aloud, seemed to set off Rico. "No!" The little man cried in a strangled voice. "This can't be happening!"
David wondered if he might need to step forward like some daytime soap diva and slap a panicked Rico across the face.
Fortunately, he was spared that action when Rico began to calm himself. "It must have been the necklace!"
"Yes," David agreed. "Where is it?"
"I had it—" Rico looked at his empty right hand. "Oh shit."
David followed Rico's gaze and looked up toward the length of chain dangling from the edge of the embalming table.
When the weird wave of sensations had hit, Rico had placed the necklace on the edge of the table.
Now, far out of reach, the chain of the necklace dangled provocatively, as if to taunt the tiny men.
