Chapter #4

Bard Night at the Black Dragon

    by: Unknown
As a bard, you make your living playing music, singing songs, and generally keeping folks' spirits up. Greyhawke is a sprawling city, ruled by thieves and terrorized by roaming marauders from across the lands; civilian-types make a pittance farming the outskirts, or crafting and selling their wares in city squares peppering each quarter, but much of the profits are claimed by the guilds, leaving the general populace near-squalor. Greyhawke probably wouldn't have developed into the urban populace of today but for the security offered by its massive outer walls and battlements, as well as a fine naval fleet which patrols and defends the harbor. Peasants who tire of the greedy looting and pillaging of their hard-earned wares and profits quickly come scampering back under the protective blanket of the Guilds whenever ogres enclaves or goblin hoardes make way from the foothills and sweep a swath of terror across the plains.

Your job at the Black Dragon Inn is to keep the minds of the travelling merchants off their troubles with epic odes of bountiful harvest, to inspire the local troops with songs of bravery and hard-fought battles, and to act as the eyes and ears of the Guilds around folks who do not place trust or faith in the guild ways of rule. Your calm and pleasant demeanor, soft but well-spoken words, and fanciful instrumentals and singing voice have served you well, and garnered much respect, praise, and a tidy profit from the meager and haggard patrons of the Black Dragon. And your connection to the Guilds helps insure that your cut of profit stays well within reason, compared to Outsiders and local-though-unaffiliated traders and craftsmen.

It's a hard life, always being polite and positive, spreading cheer and hope where there is little of either. On this night though, the hard life of a bard was doomed to become impossibly complicated...

You have the following choices:

1. Complicated by Love

2. Complicated by War
