When I read the Premise to this novel earlier today, I was immediately caught on the writer's hook and could not wait to read more. Well, that hasn't changed. So far I've read only the Premise and the Prologue, and my heartbeat and my pulse have already had quite a workout. I don't know where this author learned how to successfully develop suspense and escalate thrills, but learn it well she did and demonstrates it profusely. If this were already in print it would quite literally be a "page-turner." I keep finding myself wishing to race ahead to find out what could possibly happen next to deepen the suspense and thrill the heart. As it is, I must settle for reading the available chapters. In the Prologue we are introduced to only three characters, all of whom, I expect, will prove to be pivotal. We learn backstory about one of them-we discover that two of them have a long history-and we learn that the third apparently has a serious "axe to grind." (No, not literally.) Although they are not necessarily individuals we ourselves would care to befriend, they are three-dimensional enough that we experience empathy-and are impelled by the needs to learn what will befall them next. The author has a nice touch with descriptive imagery and setting the scene. I anticipate "what comes next." (Actually, I'd like to turn to the final page and read the ending, but I wouldn't do that-I don't want to miss a minute of the suspense!) ** Image ID #1567064 Unavailable ** Reviewed on behalf of
