War is awful. It has gotten worse for the civilians because modern weapons while called smart do not distinguish between non-combatants and combatants. Back when war was swords and spears the peasants were often spared. We have gotten even less civilized than we once were when it comes to war.

Another thing making war more traumatic is that it doesn't hide on the battlefield anymore. Everyone everywhere can see the videos and images of war happening almost in real time. The invention of the camera is the start of this age and war has been worse and worse ever since. We can look back and see previous atrocities and it is almost like we are trying to top them with each new conflict.
