A Box Full of Memories [13+] I rediscover my Great-grandfather |
HAPPY WDC ACCOUNT ANNIVERSARY FROM "Anniversary Reviews" First Impressions: I find it endlessly fascinating to read what people find out about their ancestors. It’s easy to forget that they were once us, real people with feelings and stories of their own, when they are reduced to a simple, yellowed photograph in a box. How lovely, then, when someone remembers part of their story! You’re lucky to have found out so much about your great-grandfather, and it’s a good idea to write it down so it doesn’t get forgotten. It seems like your great-grandfather was quite a character, and I loved how you related the tale to your son in the last few paragraphs. Suggestions: There isn’t anything I would change about this tale. I liked how you began by talking about the photographs in the box and how your mother reminded you of details you already knew, and then learning a few other things you didn’t. Relating this to certain aspects of your son’s character worked well in the end to give the story a well-rounded feel. Final Thoughts: I wish I had the foresight to ask more questions of my parents and grandparents when they were still alive. I know some stories going back a few generations, but I never thought to write them down and over the years, they have become a little hazy in my own mind, a bit like a faded photograph. There are plenty of people whose faces are looking at me from a picture in a box, and I don’t even know who they are. I’m glad that you got the opportunity to label the images and talk about the people in your box, and you did a great job writing this story. ** Image ID #2153781 Unavailable ** My review has been submitted for consideration in "Good Deeds Get CASH!" .
