Title: The Awakening

First Impression: I'm going to say it again, girl, horror is your wheel house. This was so creepy and with just the right amount of pushing on the edge. The old woman daring to say no despite having a knife to her throat. The forest surrounding them added another level of spookiness to the story. Kudos.

What needs your attention: Nothing distracted me from reading, it was a compelling read.

What part I liked best: The old woman facing him and showing no fear was nicely done the way it was delivered. I loved how she took in her surroundings and then smiled a gummy smile. His discomfort jumped off the page as he tried to rationalize to himself that she was senile or mentally unstable. And even more apparent when she said her name even though he didn't ask it out loud.

Overall impression: I thought the pacing was great, the tension building as it evolved from him kidnapping the old woman to her unsettling him until she regained control of the situation and freeing all the other trapped souls while taking his.
