Your warning is correct - don't chase the riches. The parameters by which 'success' is measured may not be (are not) environmentally friendly and this is leading to climate change and other adverse effects.

Were you trying to pinpoint something specific, like the stock exchange? I don't know if I'm being obtuse but I couldn't understand the exact meaning!
