*PenB* First Impressions:

A beautiful story that fit the two genres perfectly. The first paragraph immediately drew me in, and you didn’t leave the readers guessing for long who (or rather, what) the main character was. The rest of the story developed slowly and the readers first found out who Sarah Jean used to be and why she is still connected to this place, and then met Max and later Benjamin. The way she got to play the piano again was quite poignant, a symbol of connection to the living world. I loved Max’ reaction to hearing her play, shock at first, and then that nod of understanding because he had expected it, in a way.

I felt I got to know Sarah Jean’s personality best as you narrated the tale from her point of view, and she was a complex character and very relatable. Max was also well drawn - he took on this project even though he didn’t really believe his grandfather’s stories, and he was glad to be proved wrong.

*PenG* Suggestions:

The story was very polished and I don’t have any suggestions, but I spotted one tiny error:

“I thought you were crazy, Grandpa when you suggested moving here to meet a ghost.”
I believe you need a comma after “Grandpa”.

*PenP* Final Thoughts:

It was interesting that Benjamin knew , or at least hoped, that Sarah Jean would still be at the old schoolhouse but he didn’t come to ‘see’ her until he felt he might be dying soon and wanted to be near her. In theory, he could have had the house done up years ago and moved in with her, but the way you wrote the story made it far more touching - their love endured over time. You included some nice details that made it easy for the readers to imagine the scenes and you didn’t rush the tale - the characters had time to sit down for a coffee, and they talked about the family history. The ending was nicely done with the family dancing to the music Sarah Jean played and Benjamin’s gratitude for her waiting for him all these years. A great read!
