Greetings and welcome to writing.com! I discovered this by using the Random Read and Review button. First off, I suppose I should give a disclaimer: I'm a young white lady, and my life experience, though difficult, is nothing like what you and others go through each day. By reviewing this, I'm not judging or applying my own ways, only observing what you have expressed as a literary study. I always like when poetry reads like a song or a rap; I can feel the hip-hop energy of these words and picture it in a spoken-word setting. Perhaps you can make a simple music video for it, as I can see it's something you care deeply about. The flow is consistent, drawing us along through the poem to learn more about the situation. It doesn't rhyme precisely, but it has plenty of assonance, which is the lifeblood of good poetry and hip-hop. Mental health is a highly stigmatized issue for all people, but for those of color there's the added struggle of racism to deal with. The pressure to appear "normal" and hide what one is going through is intense, as jobs, lives and families are at stake. Yet, covering up the wrongdoing of others is no solution to the abuses which cause such pain. I see you mention a Christian perspective in your bio block; we know that sin thrives in the darkness, and we must shine the light of truth and openness to bring healing. You may want to add a line count and submit this to one of the poetry contests around here, such as "Shadows and Light Poetry Contest" ![]() This was an engaging and enlightening read. I'm glad to find it. Take care, thanks for sharing and keep writing ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
