About This Newsletter

Throughout my 73 years, I have encountered many tests of faith. Sometimes I pass the tests, and sometimes I fail. If I fail the test, I will encounter it again until I pass. This year, the main spiritual test I have--so far--encountered is sheltering in place.

Letter from the editor

Normally, on the first Sunday of the Gregorian month I attend devotional services at the Baha'i Center in Las Vegas. This the April devotional service, nineteen-day feast, and the Holy Day celebrations at the Center were canceled. The nineteen-day Feast and the Holy Day celebrations have been moved online, so the only thing I will miss is the social gathering and meeting my fellow believers in person. It is meeting other Baha'is in a brick and mortar building that I will miss.

The use of Skype and other apps can help alleviate part of the need for in person contact with fellow believers, but it cannot alleviate everything. Sometimes all a person need to make it through the day or the month is a handshake, a pat on the back, or a hug from a fellow believer. At this time these types of contacts are impossible, so how do you get by without them. We have to turn to prayer, scripture reading, meditation, and studying the history of your religion. Look at the times the heroes or central figures were deprived of physical contact with other believers.

During this time of spiritual tests don't cease contact with fellow believers. Use Skype, make a phone call, or join an online prayer circle and/or discussion group. Open a copy your sacred scriptures or access them online read and meditate. Study the history of your faith, especially those heroes that you most admire to see how they dealt with spiritual tests. Do your best to past this test, so that your faith will be stronger when you encounter another, hopefully, different spiritual test.

Let me know what you are doing to keep in tough with your fellow believers.
