Love & Stress
Due to things that have happened in my own life, I’ve recently wondered: exactly how much stress can love take before it dies?
Over the past few years my husband has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Bi polar disorder, and Adult ADD. Dealing with his depression and manic episodes leave the whole family wondering what to do at times, but add to that the additional problems of ADD, it creates chaos and stress on several levels. Many times I’ve wondered if our marriage will make it, but somehow our love continues to survive.
Some stresses on love:
Getting married
Mental illness
Chronic physical illness
Debilitating accident
Death of a loved one
Sex disputes
Money
Work (changing careers or jobs)
Pregnancy & birth
Raising kids
Moving
NOTE: There are some stresses that are happy occasions and yet they are still stresses.
So, how can we use this information in our romance/love writing? We can use it as inspiration! These can be a source of plots, plot twists, characterizations and more.
How do your characters deal with their stressors? Do they make it through okay? Do they say goodbye to love?
Use the stresses in your life (or mine or even people in the news) as inspiration for your writing. Bottom line: it’s something everyone can relate to, even if it’s only that we all experience stresses.

Hello Red Riding Hood,
I enjoyed your varied selection of items in this newsletter and found the seven recipes for love, based on three ingredients, quite intriquing. Thank you, for a good read. Thea

What a nice surprise to see my little crossword puzzle! Thank you for the mention!
Dr. Sternberg's formulas were interesting, and I definitely recognize each type and could see how each side of the triangle 'fit' into them. (or not)
Love does change, and that is in large part because people change as they get older. How we feel and what we want from a relationship varies in each stage of our lives, and it is a big struggle, sometimes, just to stay together through those stages. It's a beautiful thing, though, when you get past the rough waters and you turn around and that person is still standing by your side - when they've seen you at your best, and your worst, and still open their arms and smile.

Heya Red! I just wanted to say that I thought your observations on types of love, based on Dr. Sternberg's philosophies was really interesting, and so easily applied to our writing as well as reality. Thank you for sharing this-- definitely useful! Take care and Write on! ~jay
