Contests & Activities Newsletter by Dawn
Activities and contests are great ways to build community here on WDC.
One thing I love about this web site is the sense of community that one can find here. There are so many options and the possibilities for more are endless. I've spent many years here and am still often finding new things and different activities to join. I've run NaNoWriMo and writing goal groups, entered various types of contests and even a few social groups where we discuss different elements, often writing but sometimes other aspects of life. This newsletter is my little reminder that everyone has options for taking part in the WDC community.
Most of the activities are managed by different members around with various case covers and years experience. Some get produced under the higher moderators and are site sponsored. Either can make for a fun experience along with provided a good source of connections or communication. If you don't find something you would like to see, then there is often the option to create it yourself as there are probably other people who might also be interested. Not sure what might be available? Let's consider some questions for creating that community space.
Want to talk about writing?
There are groups and forums all over this place just for that. This is a site based on writing after all.
Want to make goals for writing or reading?
There are forums for that too.
What about a source in order to find contests to get inspiration?
Of course, someone has you covered here on the site.
How about reading other people's entries? Want a place to review?
Many, many groups are available that encourage reading and reviewing items from people on the site and it's a big part of helping create the community sense too.
With so many options, the challenge really becomes in finding a place within the plethora of options available. There are a couple of resources that can help. WDC has a search option if you know a specific detail you want to find. Contests and activities have their own space for advertising. Make sure to check out "Writing Contests @ Writing.Com" and "Activities @ Writing.Com" [E].
Don't be afraid to reach out either. On the instant message option people can post or chat about various topics and many of us are here if you have any questions. The general discussion forum is also a good location to ask questions and see what others on the community. It can seem like this huge, impossible space to traverse but over time and with a little looking, you can find many places in order to discover niches and enjoy the world of writing.
Have an opinion on what you've read here today? Then send the Editor feedback! Find an item that you think would be perfect for showcasing here? Submit it for consideration in the newsletter! https://www.Writing.Com/go/nl_form
Have you gotten to know others on WDC by taking part in an activity or contest?
Last month I also edited this newsletter and discussed creating a schedule as an activity or contest owner. Here is a comment sent in from a reader in regards to that newsletter:

This is a great article and having a schedule is an important thing to an activity or contest. Thank you for featuring my contest! I greatly appreciate it!
- Thank you. And I'm always happy to promote contests when I can as I know the challenge of hosting.
