Stories in Comics

I was reading a MasterClass article about Neil Gaiman's Step by Step Guide for Making Comics  Open in new Window.. Comics are visual short stories. Graphic novels are longer and tell a deeper story. Instead of describing a scene, you have images and text.

As Neil Gaiman says: “When you get to comics you have a whole different area of territory...We get to use the pictures and the words to try and do things inside the head of the reader that you might never be able to do in prose or in film.”

Once you decide how each art panel of the comic will show which part of the story, you write the script for the comic. Even though the panels are small, they can show a lot of your story. If you've never written a script or comic story, consider giving it a try. If you're an artist, take a look at illustrating comics. If you search comic software, there are programs available to create your panels.

When writing your action or adventure stories, think of comics. As always, Write On!

Last month's "Action/Adventure Newsletter (February 16, 2022)Open in new Window. question: What other hero types do you know?

Monty Author Icon: Hero's come in all types from wars to just that plain man who risks his life to save someone from drowning or death from any thing.

Prosperous Snow celebrating Author Icon: Another type of hero is a hero of faith or a faith hero. This is a person such as a saint or someone who is martyred for their belief in God, one of His Prophets,or for humanity. Examples of these are Christ, The Bab, Tahirih (the Persian poet), or Saint Valentine.

🌕 HuntersMoon Author Icon: Veterans, doctors, nurses, EMT members... the list goes on.

Adherennium - Maybe Writing? Author Icon: The hero out of time: In a historical setting, this hero exhibits modern values, usually at odds with the ruling class of the period he is actually in.

The One: Think Harry Potter, Luke Skywalker, destiny's selection to perform a heroic task.

The anti-hero: Whilst being of questionable morals, still acts as a force for good, think Clint Eastwood in any of his spaghetti westerns, especially 'The Good, The Bad and the Ugly'

Starling Author Icon: Many people around me.

THANKFUL SONALI Library Class! Author Icon: My Dad, my family, my friends, my Doctors ...

Massive Friendly Derg Author Icon: Those on the front line and unsung.

N.A Miller Author Icon: R.L Ermy... Charles Durning... War Heroes in their own right from two different wars. But nevertheless heroes of our country... gone actors... Heroes who deserve recognition.

tybo777: Sonic the hedgehog!

s Author Icon: Don't have one.

I don't want to emulate anyone, nor do I look up to some-one. There are famous people whose works I like, but as to whether they are "heroes"... I don't think so. No sports-people, no artists, no soldiers, nothing.

As to my writing, I like the "everyman" and "reluctant" hero tropes. In horror, they help ground the reality you are trying to subvert.

In real lufe, though, I do not have heroes. And I hope no-one out there sees me as their hero.

I am not a Bonnie Tyler...

elephantsealer Author Icon: I think and I believe that men and women who have beeen in the war (whether domestic or foreign) are heroes. The need to go and fight in order to live free is a worthy cause...

david Author Icon: Sadly most people turn to their Heroine, pun intended in times of stress not a hero.

Anna Marie Carlson Author Icon: My father was my hero when I had a nervous breakdown. When I slapped my face hard, he gently took ahold of my arm and said to me, "Honey, you don't want to do this to yourself, you're my daughter and I love you." He saved my life.

TheBusmanPoet Author Icon: Nicola Tesla. The inventions and ideas he had are powering the world all around his. He left an indelible impression upon our planet. He was so far ahead of his time.

Kitty Author Icon: Ochako Uraraka
