A Science Fiction based romance features a love story that is inextricably linked with a science fiction plot and setting. The most basic definition of a romance novel is simply; a novel focused on a central love story. However, if you were to throw another element into the fray, like say Science fiction, then the sky is the limit to where you can take things. A futuristic world where your reader can immerse themselves to experience the thrill of falling in love with a character the author creates that captures their attention and appeals to their personal tastes. |

Romance brings us into the individual lives of the people; it lets us see how these grand plots disrupt and interrupt their lives, and how their love can keep them fighting against insurmountable odds. Yet, romance gives the characters of science fiction more depth. Romance makes us care about the characters futures, and their romantic journey set in a scientifically or technologically advanced environment.
Your characters and their interaction with each other are important. Every character throughout the story is important. The smallest one can make the difference from a mediocre story to a great one. It is also important to balance your dialogue with your description. Let the readers build the world in their minds by giving them just enough information.
Writing romance doesn't mean it has to take place in a real-world setting, it can take place on other planets or in imaginary lands, or involve creatures such as vampires, werewolves, genies, ghosts, and pixies. Writing Science fiction is just like writing fantasy and requires an act of creative imagination. You are writing a story and building a world. Write anything you want to write. Let loose and just see where your imagination takes you.
So, build worlds and characters that work together. One thing to be aware of is that the world-building and science fiction elements usually aren't as strong as in typical science fiction, and romance always comes first. In romantic fiction, the focus is generally on two characters, the ones who fall in love.
Last, but not least is to make sure you keep a good balance of both Science fiction and Romance. Do your best to immerse yourself within your world to bring out any technological advances if there are any. Show the love between your two main characters not to mention keep a consistent theme throughout, so you really draw your reader(s) in. Above all else, have fun; if you aren't enjoying it'll show in your work.
