Many authors who enter this cyberspace find a home away from home, a second family, a place to meet like minds and make friends, a place of support for what they love best...writing and sharing! WDC has been around for a historic 22 years so it speaks to its nature in fulfilling a purpose!
I have been here awhile and learned a lot by the seat of my pants, not knowing the questions to ask and don't think I even really caught on to these newsletters as there were so many things to see! LOL Lucky for me there were so many helpful people at that time who never minded answering my queries! I joined "WdC SuperPower Reviewers Group" and received a great deal of help from its leaders and improved my reviewing too! So groups can be ideal to join to get to know people.
Still today, I learn new things while touring around.
The Newsfeed sometimes provides tips and information:
Schnujo's NOT Doing NaNoWriMo often provides Pro Tip notes like:
"Note: Pro Tip: Save Newsfeed Notes You Want to Fin..." which also contains some of her older posts!
Some Writers have created items to offer information, advice and help for both WDC helps and writing advice.
"Newbie Welcome Kit" by Richard ~ Thankful!!
"Max's Alphabetized links to Useful Stuff" by Max Griffin 🏳️🌈
"Kiya's Big Book of Writing Guidelines" by iKïyå§ama
"What should I do?" by Lilli 🧿 ☕
How about beginning reviews? "Reviewing ideas" by Maryann
I used get lots of questions about bitem and posting so I wrote "How to Post in A Forum" by eyestar~* !
Oh, and did I mention the NEWSLETTERS like "Noticing Newbies Newsletter (July 27, 2022)" ?
Go to the Community Tab on the Left and click Newsletters to subscribe! Many topics to explore. There is even an archive of older editions.
Forums like "Noticing Newbies" and "Writing.Com General Discussion" are great places to meet and ask questions too!
There are so many more and I am sure you will find those that will serve your style and need. Checking out ports of authors that share your niche can be helpful. Fear not and ask away! We have all been in your place and may even shiver as we remember the first step in a new universe with our creations in trembling hands and maybe a bit overwhelmed!
Courage and perseverance! We are still here.
Best wishes in finding what you need and discovering a new home for your talents!
Thanks for tuning in!

Thank you readers for your responses to my "Noticing Newbies Newsletter (July 6, 2022)" on Picky Tips!

"Very good tips! When I see something written in the default font and packed into a long, dense paragraph I will often skip it. There has to be a really good reason for me to struggle through something like that.
Moral of the story: writers, don't forget that reading is a visual activity! If you don't make it visually appealing for your readers they won't stick around to see what you have to say."
BIG BAD WOLF Feeling Thankful
"For reading, check own settings. I get the occasional comment from some folk that say that my font is too small, when it's just the normal font. More like the print is small on their screen, as if the Zoom is at 70% or whatever."
