“The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other’s life.” – Richard Bach
“Having a place to go is a home. Having someone to love is a family. Having both is a blessing.” – Donna Hedges
This is a busy time of year and it all starts with Halloween. It seems there’s one event after another until New Year’s doesn’t it? November tends to fly by as the nights get longer and cooler. After Halloween, families start to plan for Thanksgiving. It’s all about the meal. What sides should we have with our turkey? Should we even have turkey? Should we cater or bake our turkey? Better yet, fry it? Decisions, decisions! It’s from this perspective that I thought I’d tackle this newsletter.
As we prepare for Thanksgiving, it all comes down to family. Thanksgiving is a meal that brings family together. And while I acknowledge there are some family members that are estranged, I’m going to focus on a type of love that we’re all reminded of this time of year – unconditional love. This type of love can lead to some of the most heartwarming stories of the season, and it makes Thanksgiving one of the most memorable holidays of the year.
I just want to thank everyone for taking my Madlib, “A Witch and Her Gemstone,” that I offered last newsletter. This time out, I thought I’d tackle a Crossword. It’s my first one. If you take my crossword and submit a review, I’ll send a merit badge for Crosswords your way.

Unconditional love is a deeper kind of love that tends to last longer, is even measured, and never wavers. You’ll find it’s love without strings attached, without limitations, and without conditions. It’s a love that can be elusive, and yet, can be the bond that holds families together.
While a passionate love can be fleeting, unconditional love tends to be a slow burn. Unconditional love allows you let your guard down because you feel secure with that person. It allows for acceptance and forgiveness. Most often times, it is within the framework of family that unconditional love shines.
Family love refer is often characterized by deep affection and respect that family members have for each other. The benefits of unconditional love in the family framework include increased confidence and self-esteem, better communications skills, resiliency, and flexibly when life throws you a curve ball. You know mom, dad, big brother, or even the crazy auntie have your back. What better way to hone these life skills than around the table sharing a meal.
And that leads us back to Thanksgiving. Sharing a big family meal like this can strengthen family and community bonds (often times, the community comes together for Thanksgiving by hosting a 5K run and then serving at a food pantry or a homeless shelter) . Some of the most heartwarming stories develop when they focus on the theme of unconditional love. A couple of movies that comes to mind are “Rudy” and “The Blind Side.”
What are some your favorite movies where unconditional love just melts your heart?
