Letter from the editor

It's That Time of Year

The holidays are looming and there will be lots of contests and activities on the site. But before you dive into everything, don't forget your other commitments in life. Like fruitcake! If you told everyone you were baking fruitcakes for them as gifts for the holidays, it probably means you have less time for writing and activities.

So adjust accordingly. Don't disappoint.

My other newsletter point this month is about community. While many of us have lots of things to do and run around like crazies, there are also people in our community that are ill, homebound, or unable to be with family. If you know who they are, please take the time to reach out and check in with them. It's a very rough time of the year for some and a few kind words can go a long way. A gentle hug, a handwritten card, or...a fruitcake. This goes for not only our WDC community but our towns, our nursing facilities, and those around us that are homebound.

For this holiday season, please take the time to be kind. It means so much more than a wrapped gift.

And from me to you, have a happy one.

Aside from an uptick in work, one of the things stealing my time and attention in the past month was a computer game called Terra Invicta. In an interview, Stephen Hawking said, "If aliens ever visit us, I think the outcome would be much as when Christopher Columbus first landed in America, which didn't turn out very well for the Native Americans."

Last month's "Contests & Activities Newsletter (October 26, 2022)Open in new Window. question: For what purposes do you use the Newsfeed?

Angelica Weatherby- Grateful28 Author Icon: Various reasons. I see it's a great way to advertise my activities. I am seeing great entries in my contests.

BIG BAD WOLF is Howling Author Icon: Advertising. But, don't most use it for that anyways?

Beholden Author Icon: Mostly for making wiseacre comments on others' posts.

THANKFUL SONALI Library Class! Author Icon: To know of the latest contests / activities going on.
To collect trinkets! *Smile*
To see what's happening with people who share photos and anecdotes about their life.

Starling Author Icon: I use it to find out what possible contests may be coming up. I also keep track of what my WdC friends are up too. It is a way to keep in contact what people are doing.

AmyJo-Thankful in heart Author Icon: To see what's going on with everyone; to see what's coming up next in the way of contests/activities. Lots of fun going on...and of course....trinkets!

bryanmchunter: To encourage users to add to my interactive stories. GPs will be rewarded for certain stories.

Madelyn Gobble Gobble Stone Author Icon: Contests/activities and to see what new pieces users might be mentioning are ready for reading/reviewing.

B. T. Lane ~Finished Memoir~ Author Icon: I share writing and music that usually isn't read or listened to by the masses.

s Author Icon: I post weird little things I write, advertise my port, and read the words of others. I find more interesting stuff to read on the Community Newsfeed than anything else.

N.A Miller Author Icon: general tool to communicate story information and updates.

oldgreywolf on wheels Author Icon: This is the one place I "meet" fellow writers. Reading how each of us responds to identical stimuli reminds me of Pimms biodiversity modeling. Would be a boring world if we were identical, wouldn't it?

NelY Author Icon: ... a bird eye view of what's going on ...

elephantsealer Author Icon: There are works of writers that may need a review...

TheBusmanPoet Author Icon: For my screwy sense of humor and to interact with other writers. *Smile*

Mouse says gobble gobble Author Icon: Announcements of contests and such. I don't post much but I love checking it in the morning.

Turkey DrumStik Author Icon: I sometimes drop links to offsite writing-related articles or products.

graybabe Author Icon: For entertainment, information and the quirky posts that the newsfeed always has.

Bob Author Icon: Insight into other writer's minds.

Thanks for your feedback, it's always interesting to see the variety of responses. They're much appreciated!
