Letter from the editor

Aside from all the weather cliches, I think it’s fairly well known that weather can influence most people. It certainly does with me, which made me think of this topic since here in S. Florida we are starting our rainy season.

It’s been rainy and windy, which makes me want to stay at home. To be perfectly honest, I always prefer staying home, but with the rain, I have a good excuse. *Rolling* Safety first, right?

Rain or cold weather, for example, can affect everyone differently. Some people feel melancholy and unproductive when experiencing rainy weather, while others feel energized because they don't have to resist the temptation to go out and ignore their work/tasks on a beautiful, sunny day.

I suppose we can say the same about hot and sunny days. Daydreams of the beach, boating, etc will distract some people. While someone else, like me, would rather stay inside with the air-conditioning and a glass of iced coffee.

I may have just realized that I’m a hermit or a recluse, because no matter the weather, I prefer to be home to read, write, watch movies, and drink coffee. Cheers, *Coffeev*!

The important thing is to get to know what types of weather make you productive and use it to your advantage!

And another thing...

Think about how you use the weather in your short stories! Weather can create a mood, set the scene, or be the backdrop. Never be afraid to use weather in your story-telling. Just use care to steer clear of the minefield of clichés. The weather can be rich and powerful. It can be infused with symbolism and meaning. And most of all, weather is important to us as people. We interact with it each day.
