This month's newsletter is about author and journalist, Stieg Larsson, who was an amazing man that embodied the spirit of investigation and justice for the disadvantaged person. His books are bestsellers and two were made into movies that did fairly well at the box office. I hadn't planned on doing a newsletter about Stieg Larsson's work but I think that you will enjoy this one this month. He is an interesting man who was also a journalist and a bestselling author but his life was cut short before he saw the success of this work. Sometimes life is not fair but we still get to enjoy his writing nevertheless. So, without further discussion, we'll move on into the newsletter.

This month's May newsletter is centered around the amazing author, Stieg Larsson. Stieg Larsson was a Swedish journalist and author, best known for his Millennium Trilogy, which includes The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest. Born in 1954 in Skelleftehamn, Sweden, Larsson spent much of his early life reading books and investigating the far-right extremist movements in Sweden. His passion for writing and activism led him to co-found the Swedish Expo Foundation, which works to expose and counteract intolerance and racism. Unfortunately, Larsson did not live to see the success of his novels, as he died of a heart attack in 2004 at the age of 50.
Despite his untimely death, Stieg Larsson's novels continue to captivate readers around the world. His unique blend of intricate plotlines, complex characters, and social commentary has made him a household name in the crime thriller genre. In this article, we'll take a closer look at the life and work of Stieg Larsson, and explore just what it is that makes his writing so compelling.
Before discussing the Millennium Trilogy in detail, it's important to note that Stieg Larsson had a long and successful career in journalism before becoming a novelist. He worked for various newspapers and magazines in Sweden, where he wrote about politics and social issues. This experience gave him a keen eye for detail and an understanding of the intricacies of society and its problems, which he would later incorporate into his novels.
Larsson's first novel, The Tenacious Detective Returns (also known as The Covert's Eye), was published in 1991, but it was the Millennium Trilogy that would make him a household name. The first book in the series, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, was published posthumously in 2005 and became an instant bestseller. The second and third books were also published after Larsson's death, in 2006 and 2007, respectively, and were equally successful.
One of the most intriguing aspects of Stieg Larsson's life is the mystery surrounding his death. Larsson died of a heart attack in 2004, at the age of 50. However, there are many who believe that his death was not natural. Some have speculated that he was murdered, possibly as a result of his work as a journalist and activist. Others have suggested that he was the victim of a conspiracy, possibly involving the Swedish government.
Despite these theories, there is no concrete evidence to support them. The official cause of Larsson's death was heart failure, and there is no reason to believe that foul play was involved. However, the mystery surrounding his death has only added to the intrigue surrounding his life and work.
Stieg Larsson's impact on the mystery/thriller genre cannot be overstated. His unique blend of social commentary and crime fiction has inspired countless other authors, and has helped to make the genre more socially aware. Larsson's influence can be seen in the work of many contemporary crime writers, who have taken up his mantle and continued to use the genre to address important social issues.
Stieg Larsson's life and work are shrouded in mystery, but his impact on the crime thriller genre is undeniable. His novels have captivated readers around the world, and his legacy will continue to inspire writers for years to come. If you haven't read the Millennium Trilogy yet, now is the time to dive in. You won't be disappointed, my friends and I'll see you next month. |

In last my last newsletter, I asked a question about Jo Nesbo and what four, yes, four jobs prior to deciding on a career as an author. Unfortunately, no one answered that question and so we don't have a MB to give away for last month.
A reader did submit a question "My late dad's first name was Andor {Hungarian for Andrew}. As a weird coincidence a Star Wars movie came out also named Andor. I would give anything to know how did they come across a Hungarian name?"
I was not sure how to answer this question but I will post it for my reader's to answer since no one answered the newsletter question from my newsletter. Are there any Star Wars movie trivia lovers out there? Do you know why they chose Andor for the name of the film?
In the current newsletter, I posted a question about what girl in Stieg Larsson's novel had a tattoo?
If you answer the question for the newsletter, you will get a MB of your choice (there are A LOT of choices now) and if you answer my reader's question, I'll post your response and you will get two MBs of your choice for answering. This will be for the first 5 readers who answer for this month's newsletter. This was a great newsletter and hopefully, you will have a fun Memorial day holiday this month. See you next time!
