Vacation Adventures
Not many of us write for vacation magazines so we can travel and have fun all the time, but some of us add adventures to our vacations. Even if it is a small adventure like visiting a new winery, it's fun to experience new things. When sending a character on a new adventure, be sure to add in some of the enjoyment of experiencing something for the first time. It can even be something like learning to snorkel or ride a horse.
Inspiration can come from all sorts of travel blogs and articles. You might even find something you'd like to experience and plan for your next trip. Research can be fun and helpful!
Along with every adventure, comes the danger of something bad happening. Or something funny happening like the donkey eating the character's hat. Characters don't always have to have something happen to them that wasn't planned. Sometimes it's more fun to plan something and have it go a little sideways. There is tons of content out there, waiting for you to read, think about and write about.
Adventure and Write On!

Excerpt: Each day around 12pm NOON WDC time, one of our dedicated volunteer judges will judge the previous day's entries and post a new writing prompt. Entries for each new prompt must be posted by 11:59am WDC time the next day.
Excerpt: Watching, uncertain, T held the cup but did nothing more than try not to stare as that would have created an uncomfortable situation.
| | The Swing (18+) A young girl swings while her brother drowns. Winner of SCREAMS!!! July 30 2023. #2300570 by Beholden |
Excerpt: The tree has grown since the night Ariadne last sat in the swing. It is no more than a shadow against the dark sky, its shape outlined by the myriad stars. High above her head it hangs suspended. She looks up at it, contemplating the years that have flown.

Excerpt: I peered my head around the corner to the workshop. "Douglas," I said. "Can you help me with something?" I fidgeted with the armor chip in my hands.

Excerpt: Amidst the large galaxy of Orion, far past the large sprawling circular cluster of stars known as the Milky Way a large spaceport and city are here, thriving and sprawling upon the rocky, airless world as it circles the K-class star. It is in this airless world, in a solar system, unlike Sol, that this unformed moon serves as a mining colony.
Excerpt: I must have over done it last night, I thought. But, I couldn’t recall coming here, and who the hell was downstairs.
Excerpt: How about Blogging in the week of WdC’s Twenty-Third Birthday? I will provide a prompt every day from September 1 till September 7 (WdC time). You make it a daily entry for seven days. Simple as that!
Excerpt: The first chapter is arguably the most important chapter in a novel because it is where an author gets to hook readers and draw them into the story. So give us your best possible work.

This month's question: Have you written about your personal adventures or mishaps?
What was it?
Answer below Editors love feedback!
Last month's "Action/Adventure Newsletter (July 5, 2023)" question: What are some fun words to describe your favorite food?
How do you use that in your writing?
NaNoNette : Fun words for food are: delicious, crunchy, nutty, caramelly, salty.
I am not sure that I've used those in my writing. I should get started.
Monty : How many steaks are they, fixed how many ways, I like them all.
Kåre เลียม Enga : So many choices; but, let's start with bread. The smell of fresh baked bread reminds me of my grandmother and I'm 7 again. It brings me happiness. I like a crisp crust, a doughy inside, a sweet rye (think Swedish limpa), the thin flatness of lavash, the thicker pita. Add some raisins and cinnamon. What does bread feel like? Soft. If it's hard as a rock it's good for dipping; if it's croutons ... soup; crumbs ... stuffing. Add corn, rice, oats, rye... why not. What does it sound like? A crunch, a child begging, a scream when the ants have found it, a thud when it falls on the floor. How does it move? It has the wings of a raven or the legs of a hungry mutt. And it floats until the ducks or goldfish eye it.
TheBusmanPoet : Edible!
Turkey DrumStik : World Chocolate Day on a Friday? Blegh.
oldgreywolf on wheels : Only when my immune system is low.
dragonwoman : melting, soft lava flow of deliciousness.
Words Whirling 'Round : So round, so firm, so fully packed,
in baskets, bags or stacks of flats.
Spit stony pits with juicy shreds,
delightful bites of cherry-red.
Leslie Loo : Hot, savory, and yummy! 😋🤤
jdennis01jaj: Melts into a shake
littlejoy: Fullfiling
Dad : Dark, frozen and incredible. And on top of all that, my doctor says dark chocolate is good for you. Life is good!
Nobody’s Home : Wow! It's 10pm July 7th and I'm just discovering this! Two hours of chocolate forthcoming! *Hungry*
Words to describe it?
satisfying, bitter, sweet, & creamy, dreamy, best when melted & warm
crunchable, chewable, spreadable, drinkable, melt-in-your-mouth
Okay, can't stand it. Must have chocolate NOW!
Kotaro : Dizzy delicious
Omnivore : Sinful, cause if it ain't worth going to hell for you shouldn't eat it.
For personal reference if you stand before God and are asked.
"What did you like about life."
If some type of food isn't one of the things you say, your lying not only to yourself but to God as well with all of heaven as witness.
Good luck staying in heaven after that.
Arsuit : Do protein shakes count as food?
Bob : Uuuuummmm Tex-mex
Thanks to everyone for your responses!
